50 years of friendship 💙

Caroline, Mary and Janice, all from Liverpool, met in the mid 1970s on the BSc Chemistry programme at University of Liverpool and have remained friends ever since.

This photo captures their graduation day outside the Philharmonic Hall.

Since then, all three graduates have retired from
years of service in the public and private sectors.

🚀 The sky’s the limit for our LASER (Liverpool Association of Space Exploration and Research) team! Thanks to support from the Alumni and Friends Fund Grant, the team secured vital rocket components, including the motor and a dedicated circuit board for their rideshare payload, helping them achieve an incredible 1st place overall at this year's UKSEDS National Rocketry Championship. Competing against more than 250 participants across 50+ teams, LASER soared to the top of the leaderboard.

🏆 The team also took home the Best Rideshare Payload Award (supported by the grant-funded circuit board) and the Best Public Engagement Award, returning to Liverpool with three trophies in total.

The team said: "This achievement reflects the progress we've made over the past two years. With continued support from the Alumni and Friends Fund, we've been able to build our knowledge and experience through each competition. The lessons learned from previous years were fundamental to achieving this result. Thank you so much for your support."

With the increasing prevalence of dental implants in clinical practice, it is essential that clinicians are confident in recognising peri-implant tissue health and disease. This session combines theory with hands-on practical experience to support effective patient care and improve long-term implant longevity.

Join lecturers Jenny Walker (Dental Therapist) and Kathryn Mayo (Dental Hygienist) to cover the following learning objectives:

• Understand the anatomical and biological differences between periodontal and peri-implant tissues
• Recognise and classify peri-implant health, peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis
• Select appropriate instruments based on peri-implant diagnosis and implant surface considerations
• Demonstrate safe and effective peri-implant instrumentation techniques
• Understand the importance of maintenance protocols in long-term implant success.

🏆 Huge congratulations to our Motorsport Team on their incredible success at this year’s Formula Student competition at Silverstone!

Thanks to support from the Alumni and Friends Fund Grant, the team was able to purchase a campsite team tent, helping create the perfect base for a record-breaking weekend.

The team shared: “Supported by this fantastic setup, we had a record-breaking year! We are thrilled to announce that ULM0XX won the Concept Class Overall, while ULM020 achieved 21st overall in the Formula Student Class, officially making it our highest-placing EV vehicle in team history. It was wonderful to connect with our sponsors, alumni and fellow competitors throughout the weekend.”

A fantastic achievement for everyone involved! Congratulations on bringing home the Concept Class title and setting a new team record! 👏🏎️
