Great session today led by Adam and Issy, all about plant adaptations 🌱

The pupils were challenged to design how fruit and veg could adapt to survive in different environments… and they absolutely ran with it.

Loads of creativity, some properly clever ideas, and the quality of work was spot on.

We're so much more than freshly cooked, nutritious school meals!

Huge credit to the programmes team… each of them delivering sessions to 120 children. No small task.

What’s been great to see is how these days keep improving every time. Learning, adapting, getting better as a team.

It’s turned into a proper collaboration… and it shows.

Well done everyone đź’›

Shoutout to the team at Food for Thought ( just a few of them pictured here ) 👏

These are the kind of people who don’t just talk about change… they get stuck in and make it happen.

From classrooms to communities, they’re using food to bring people together, build confidence and actually teach something that sticks.

Proper impact, every day our their lives 💜💛❤

Shoutout to 👏

They’re doing it properly. Turning surplus food into free, wholesome meals and creating spaces where people can sit down, eat together and actually talk.

It’s not just about food. It’s tackling waste, loneliness and mental health in one go.

Even better… Megan, our Cookery and Nutrition Manager, gives her time there too. Says a lot. ❤🍓

🎉 World Book Day Competition Winner! 📚🍎

Congratulations to St Oswald’s Catholic Primary School for winning our Fictional Feasts competition!

Their creative entry designed a healthy meal inspired by a book character, earning the school ÂŁ150 of food-themed books for their library.

We love running fun competitions like this to support our member schools in building a positive Good Food Culture.

Spent the afternoon recruiting 16 new School Food Ambassadors from Years 1 and 2 at St Francis De Sales.

Plenty of fun as they got stuck in creating their own signature… and taking the role very seriously.

Future food leaders in the making. 🍽️

For British Science Week, Megan and Kerry worked with 240+ children at Dovedale Primary.

Two year groups, two lessons, plenty going on.

Year 3 explored plant science and the journey from field to fork, finishing with 120 portions of seasonal soup.

Year 4 focused on the humble date, creating 120 snacks… stuffed with whipped feta and chives, topped with crispy onions and honey. Big thanks to Neil and Wallis for the tips.

Alongside the cooking, we looked at nutrition and the cultural significance of dates during Ramadan.

Best part for us was hearing children share their own cultures and experiences with each other.

School Food Heroes – Pilot Programme 🍽️

We’re launching a new initiative to celebrate healthy food choices in schools and shine a light on the people who make it happen every day… your kitchen teams.

This pilot is for our member schools and is all about making lunchtime a more positive, rewarding experience for pupils, while giving staff the recognition they deserve.

What’s included:
Whole school assemblies focused on healthy eating and celebrating kitchen teams
A simple reward system with certificates and stickers to encourage better food choices

What’s coming next:
Staff briefing guides and ready-to-use comms
Template resources to make rollout easy
Termly celebration ideas
A chance for your school to shape the programme through real feedback

We’re looking for partner schools to pilot this with us. You’ll get support throughout and recognition for being involved from the start.

For Young Carers Action Day last month, Megan and Kerry held a special lesson to recognise and celebrate the amazing young carers at St Monica’s School.

During the session, the children got stuck into baking biscuits, decorating some while the others were in the oven. Nothing fancy, just a chance to relax, chat and enjoy being kids for a bit.

These children show incredible strength, kindness and responsibility every single day… often without much recognition.

So this was about giving something back. A small moment, but one that felt important.

A word from our CEO Tom Lambeth -

Food For Thought were pleased to support a panel discussion with the School Food Project to coinciding with the launch of the new School Food Standards Consultation.

Food For Thought welcomes the review of the standards, to level the playing field for all children in England regardless of their provider is a step in the right direction.

The great news is that Food For Thought have been going above and beyond the basic standards for a number of years through working with employed, qualified nutritionists to design our menus.

We feel that the financial impact of improving the standard of school food will be easier to manage as we do not take profit from our schools focussing on the needs of the pupils.
