Does your teacher ever ask you to describe the weather when it comes to creative writing tasks?

Weather can shape the emotion and tension in a story, affecting atmosphere, character, and plot, and there are many different ways that rain can be described to create different effects. ⛈️

Notice how the words below could all be used to describe the rain, but not all in the same paragraph. They range from words to describe a light mist to a heavy downpour. ☔

Use some of these words to describe the falling rain in your next piece of creative writing.

Thank you so much to the parent of one of my tutees for allowing me to post her review on my wall. ♥️

Due to her privacy settings and the political situation in her country, her profile must be locked meaning that her review doesn’t appear to the public.

It has been my absolute pleasure to tutor her daughter who achieved exceptional results, gaining two grade 9s - 93% in English Language and 93% in English Literature! 🤩

My youngest is excitedly getting ready to host her first book club! 📚

She will be reviewing the first A Series of Unfortunate Events with her friend, discussing likes and dislikes, favourite moments and characters and of course, giving the book an all important star rating⭐️ They have been making notes in their book club note pads.

The only problem is - we can’t find her copy of the actual book. 🤣

But there is tea, bourbons (the requested biscuit 😳) and “it’s okay, it’s all in my head mum” so I think we’ll be alright! 👍🏻

Really glad I was able to help this student with my strategies for approaching unseen poetry, a section of the exam that many students find really tricky!

One tip I give students is to think about what colour the poem would be, even if they are not sure they understand the poem fully on first reading.

So they might get a sense of sadness and so the poem is blue. When they get to the end, is it still blue?

If they would change the colour then they have detected a shift in tone.

Little tips like this can help students unlock meaning. 🔐

Try it next time you approach unseen poetry. ☺️

Just some of the wonderful messages I have received from parents today. The first student took part in my An Inspector Calls course as well as joining my other Literature masterclasses and her grade 9 has inspired her to do English Literature at A Level. ♥️

These grades ultimately belong to the students and their teachers, but playing a part in the learning journey of my tutees is always an absolute pleasure and privilege. 😊

And as you will see from the last message, this particular student was so thrilled with the grades he achieved, he thought that I had marked his papers! 😆

Enjoy your celebrations tonight everyone! 🎉⭐️
