We are delighted to announce that two of our long serving teachers at Chesterfield High School who have made “outstanding contributions” to the lives of young people over 20 years have been recognised with Sefton Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Steve Weekes and Gavin Hynes were applauded as Finalists in the Sefton Lifetime Achievement category sponsored by LWC Drinks in the 2026 Grand Pride Of Sefton Awards, which were held at The Grand in Southport.

For the past two decades, Steve and Gavin have dedicated their time, energy, and commitment to running the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme at Chesterfield High School in Crosby, supporting thousands of students.

They’ve helped generations of young people build confidence, resilience, teamwork and independence.
Many young people credit their experiences as life-changing — shaping their aspirations, character, and future success.
One nomination for them said: “It is with great pride that we nominate Mr Steve Weekes and Mr Gavin Hynes, teachers at Chesterfield High School, for the Grand Pride of Sefton Award in recognition of their outstanding service to young people and the wider community.

“For more than 20 years each, Mr Weekes and Mr Hynes have dedicated their time, energy, and unwavering commitment to running the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme at Chesterfield High School. Through their leadership, encouragement, and belief in young people, they have enabled 1000s of students to successfully achieve their Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards at all levels.

Huge congratulations to Xander and Euan in Year 9 who were representing Sefton district schools U-14’s in the National cup final last weekend against Southampton at Stoke Cities bet365 Stadium.

Not only did they represent themselves, Chesterfield High School and the district impeccably well, they also went on and won the cup into the bargain! Final score 1-0 in a tense and highly competitive encounter.

The boys are also playing in the north-west District cup final towards the end of May and the team currently sit top of the north-west District league on our set to achieve a unique treble never been achieved before by any Sefton team.

We are bursting with pride for what they and the Sefton schoolboys team have achieved so far this season.

Josh joined as an Under 9 after spending a number of years in their Pre-Academy, and is an competitive player who can operate in both defensive and midfield positions. Good luck Josh 👏👏

We are proud to announce that participants from our school were part of a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title. The most backing dancers to a singer is 1,123, achieved by Pro-Excel, Bradford Bulls RLFC, Sigala and Shanice Steele in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK, on 20 March 2026.

This incredible achievement brought together performers from across the UK, Ireland and the Isle of Man to take part in a large-scale live stadium performance.

Congratulations to all involved in this official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS achievement.

Last night was disco night on the sports tour and as you can see we owned the dance floor! We wouldn't expect anything less!! 🕺💃

What an amazing day at the festivals. All the pupils were exceptional in very tough and hot conditions against really strong opposition!
