We are one of only two centres in the UK where you can study the full range of Hispanic languages, including Basque, Catalan, Spanish and Portuguese. You can also study Film Studies and Chinese with us.

Do you want to find out about careers in literary translation and publishing, transcreation, national intelligence, and much more?

Join us for our 2026 Translation Careers day to hear what our current MA students did for their translation work placements as well as insights into language services from professional translation associations.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided, attendance is free but please register at the link in our bio! Priority will be given to UG finalists and PGT students.

This is a hybrid event but some sessions are only open for in-person attendees.

Happy Sant Jordi (Saint Georgeโ€™s Day)! A traditional celebration for Catalans where roses and books fill their day and their streets.

The myth tells us of a Dragon, a Princess and a Knight that came to her rescue. The roses grew from the blood of the dragon that had been slain by Sant Jordi ๐Ÿฅ€

To celebrate 100 years of Catalan Studies at the University of Liverpool, the Catalan Government Delegation in the UK and Ireland sponsored a beautiful wine reception after our Symposium, catered by Lunya for a traditional Catalan experience.

It was an honour to have so many guests from the university and other institutions, such as the Institut Ramon Llull, the Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish Consulate, other universities in the UK and Ireland, and even Sweden, as well as the Lord Mayor of Liverpool; but also guests who live in the UK but have links with Catalan and Catalonia.

The film Mamรญfera was one of the great revelations of Catalan/Spanish cinema in 2024, featuring outstanding performances by Maria Rodrรญguez Soto and Enric Auquer, two of the most highly regarded actors of recent years.

Shot in Catalan language, the film explores the concept of motherhood. The protagonist, Lola, enjoys a happy life with her partner, Bruno, until an unexpected pregnancy turns her world upside down.
