Looks like a lively time was had by all! Knockevin is just one of the special schools across Northern Ireland that Live Music Musicians are visiting, as part of the programme.

We had a wonderful time at Colyton and Colyford memory cafe this afternoon with our Christmas programme. Two favourite moments were the impromptu dance party that started during ‘Sleigh Ride’ and the communal chorus of gently singing voices during a bass flute rendition of ‘In the Bleak Midwinter’. Thank you for having us, it was such a pleasure to enjoy music together! And all of this made possible by Live Music Now ❤️

"Hearing everybody’s lullabies is such a magical experience; the whole room was filled with emotion, love and warmth." - Healthcare worker

Some of the earliest sounds from our childhood can profoundly impact the rest of our lives. Our Lullaby Project pairs families with professional musicians to create and sing personal lullabies for their babies, supporting early bonding and exposing young children to language and music they might not otherwise have the chance to discover.

Can you help us reach more children and families who would otherwise miss out on the opportunity to participate in music-making?

Lullaby Project - Collette's Story

‘So I wrote Annie a letter… We do mantras daily so she knows she's strong, she's beautiful, and powerful, because these are things that I didn't know when I was growing up. So I wanted her to grow up knowing that.

Because I have anxiety, I didn't think my ideas would be good enough. But then when I actually got into it properly, it feels empowering, it feels strong. It's just so lovely to have something so nice to give to Annie.

I'm very, very happy. It feels warm. It gives me a funny, tingly feeling, which is a good thing. Annie loves it, so... And she danced for the first time, which made me so happy.’

'Dancing Above the Sea' Round Here: Weston-super-Mare

Today marks the final release of our ‘Round Here videos with Historic England.

In the Summer of 2022, musicians Tara Baggott and William Crawford worked with Bay Tree School, Herons' Moor School and Acer House care home to write and compose a brand-new song about the High Street in Weston-super-Mare.

“Dancing Above the Sea” was born out of workshops between the musicians and members of the local community, celebrating icons of Weston-super-Mare’s heritage: the Pier, the Tropicana, Weston rock and the sea.

On 16 July, the song was premiered at Big Lamp Corner on Weston High Street.

Produced in association with North Somerset Council and Culture Weston

Tara Baggot said: "When I heard that we’d be talking to people from a care home and people from a school, I thought that was a really nice way to look at old memories and new memories about Weston. Get a really nice idea of what this place is all about."

William Crawford: "I feel like this project is a good gateway for me to pursue music as a professional career. It’s given me a lot more confidence in myself and I’ve really enjoyed every second of it."

'This is Our Home' Round Here: Tottenham

Day five of our ‘Round Here releases with Historic England

In Tottenham, musicians Elliot Morris and Jamal Jones worked with Vale School & The Brook School to write and compose a brand-new song about the High Street in Haringey Council.

“This Is Our Home” was born out of workshops between the musicians and members of the local community, celebrating icons of Tottenham’s heritage: the old roller disco hall, the 149 bus, the market and the pubs.

On 13 July, the song was premiered as part of Haringey Schools Music Festival in the Park.

Produced in Association with Haringey Council and the Tottenham High Street Heritage Action Zone Cultural Consortium.

'Come With Me' 'Round Here: Huddersfield

We’re excited to release the ‘Round Here song for with ! Chris Ruffoni and Jessie Whyke wrote “Come With Me” with local residents in Kirklees.

Live Music Now musician Chris Ruffoni (of Band of Jays ) said:

"For this project we wrote a song with the brilliant Castle Hill School.
Playing music is amazing way of making a connection with someone. You can do it without even needing language. During the process, we played songs with the children, and you look into each other's eyes, and you feel this kind of rapport, you feel this connection, this relationship build incredibly fast. If you're lucky, you get these reactions and responses that the teachers tell us they just don't see in other contexts."

'Chatham Intra is Where We Meet' Round Here: Chatham Intra

Day three of our ‘Round Here launch week with belongs to Chatham Intra!

“Chatham Intra Is Where We Meet” was composed by Thomas Harvey and Dani Osoba and students of Trinity School in Medway Council

The song celebrates icons of Chatham’s heritage: The Ship Inn, Rochester, Sun Pier and the dockyard.

On 15 July, the song was premiered at Sun Pier House, as part of IntraFest 2022.

Live Music Now musician Thomas Harvey said:
“In Chatham, the Round Here project brought a true sense of community between the various classes involved in creating our song.

One of my favourite memories had to be witnessing the joy and laughter when we managed to fit the lyric ‘Batman shoes’, which came from something they had seen in a local shop on a tour of the local area.

Managing to place that within the song brought an awareness that you can write songs about anything and everything! The children could see there is no limit to the creativity they can foster.”

Musician Dani Osoba said: “Throughout the process, it was really nice to hone in on what’s important in one area. Projects like this are so important because people don’t necessarily find the joys in their local area, and I think being able to bring those out and show those off really make those known through the kids and through the performance of the song. It was really great.”

'Chatham Intra is Where we Meet' by Thomas Harvey, Dani Osoba and the pupils of Trinity School. Produced in association with Medway Council and the Old High Street Intra Cultural Consortium.

'The Beauty of Brierley Hill' - Round Here: Brierley Hill

It’s day two of our ‘Round Here releases with Historic England.

We’re thrilled to share the Brierley Hill video with you, written by musicians Chris Roberts - Guitarist and Zac Lowe with students from Brockmoor Primary School in Dudley borough.

“The Beauty of Brierley Hill” was born out of workshops between the musicians and students, celebrating aspects of Brierley Hill’s heritage: the steelworks, the cinema, the hill and the High Street.

On 10 July, the song was premiered at Brierley Hill Civic.

Live Music Now musician Chris Roberts said: "It's been a really interesting process writing the song. It's the first project like this that I've done with a big group. We tried loads of ideas, like getting the children to write a letter to me and Zach about why we should move to Brierley Hill. We had group discussions and played some bits of tunes, and we would come up with bits of melody that we'd piece together. It was amazing how these things slotted together from the different classes, who hadn't even heard each other's compositions."

Musician Zachary Lowe said: "My best memory of the ‘Round Here Project’ was probably the day when we got into the studio and started recording all the children and musicians. Seeing the excitement on their faces, watching and hearing them sing with feeling and emotion about their town. Hearing the song come together really made all the sessions and hard work behind the scenes worth it."

'When We've Finished At the Wire Works' Round Here: Barrow-in-Furness

'When We've Finished At the Wire Works'

Today marks the release of the first of the videos from our ‘Round Here project with Historic England starting with Barrow-in-Furness, where Maz O'Connor and Jorgie Wilson composed “When We’re Finished At The Wire Works” with local residents.

“I left Barrow a few years ago and a lot has changed since then – there’s more of a feeling of community among musicians. It’s amazing to meet these people and hear everybody’s different styles of music.

I feel really appreciative of all the talent that is in this town. Hopefully that’s starting to get heard a bit more. The atmosphere was brilliant and we were all really supportive of each other and we had a really good time.”
Live Music Now musician, Maz O'Connor

“When We’ve Finished at the Wire Works” was born out of workshops between the musicians and members of the local community, celebrating the wire works, the cellophane plant, the shipyard, the hotel and all who worked there.

On 17 July, the song was premiered at Barrow Library.

Jorgie Wilson said: “We wrote the song with residents of Risedale Care Homes alongside some students from George Hastwell school. The song follows the story of a few people: a wireworker, a shipyard worker, someone who works in a cellophane factory and someone that works in a hotel. It’s really nice to be able to include all these roles from these places based on Duke Street in the past. We worked with a group of children between 16-18, who were a completely lovely group of kids. All-round, it’s been a brilliant day.”

When We’ve Finished At the Wire Works – by Maz O’Connor, Jorgie Wilson, the residents of Risedale Care Homes - Recruitment and the students of George Hastwell School. Barrow Borough Council
