The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 is now fully in force.

The final provisions took effect on 19th June 2026, completing the biggest reform of UK data protection law since the GDPR. The transition period is over, and the ICO now holds significant new enforcement powers.

For organisations, that raises the bar. Being broadly familiar with the rules is no longer enough. If your policies, processes or team training predate the DUAA, you may already be behind, including on the new legal duty to operate a formal data protection complaints procedure.
