Armed with just a trolley full of recyclable materials and a bag of popcorn kernels, it was brilliant to be back after school club! 🍿

The children's creativity was poppin' from cardboard box aeroplanes you could sit in, guitars with strings and an ingenious interactive pingball game.

Creativity at its finest with open ended materials and the permission to 'make whatever you want.'

Ever noticed how children can often bypass the expensive toy in favour of the cardboard box it came in? πŸ“¦

πŸ’‘There is a reason for this.

Open-ended resources such as sticks, pebbles, mud, water, cardboard boxes and loose parts don't tell children what they should do with them. Instead, they invite children to imagine, create, experiment, problem-solve and explore.

πŸͺ„A stick can become a magic wand, a fishing rod, a spoon for mud pies or part of a den. A cardboard box can become a pirate ship, a cave, a shop or a home for woodland creatures.

Unlike many toys with a single purpose, natural and recycled materials offer endless possibilities. Children become the creators of their play rather than consumers of someone else's idea.

Sometimes the richest learning experiences really do come from the simplest things. 🌿

πŸ‘€ A large branch that has snapped at our Forest school site

This is why we have an adverse weather policy and sessions are cancelled in woodland areas when wind gusts exceed 35mph

Luckily this didn't happen during a session but you can see now why we do cancel when weather conditions deem it unsafe to do so!

It is also why I get here early to do a site check βœ…

✨ Appreciation Post ✨

A little shout-out to my two wonderful Forest School assistants, and πŸ’š

We haven't been working together for very long, and mostly only one afternoon a week, but honestly I couldn't have wished for two better women to support our groups.

They are both incredibly hardworking and proactive. We each just seem to crack on with whatever needs doing without having to overly direct.

They are fantastic with the children and families, and each brings something unique and valuable to our sessions.

🌟 As someone who has built this service from the ground up, it means so much to work alongside people who not only work incredibly hard but who genuinely understand and share the values at the heart of what we do.

Finding people who are the right fit isn't always easy, but with Denise and Amy I feel very lucky.

Thank you both for everything you do. The children, families and I are grateful to have you as part of the team. πŸŒΏπŸŒ±πŸ’š

❓Who knew a pair of tongs and a tray of coloured pasta would be the biggest hit of our Forest School weekend? πŸ₯’🍝

Those little squeezes, lifts and transfers are building the coordination children use for dressing, feeding, using tools and, later on, writing β€” all through play in the woods.

And whilst the pasta was a favourite, den building remains one of the best all-round activities for developing both gross and fine motor skills.

Children are carrying, lifting, pulling and pushing large sticks and tarps, whilst also twisting, pe***ng, tying and knotting. πŸ’ͺ🌿

πŸ‘€ Check out the boss den at the end of our reel.

But really the best bit for me? The children just think they're having fun. ❀️

⚠️Women's Well-being Session Update

πŸ˜₯ After much consideration, I have made the difficult decision to postpone this Sunday's Women's Well-being Session due to low booking numbers.

Firstly, a huge thank you to the wonderful women who booked a place. Your support means so much. Thank you also to our amazing partners and Jane from who were ready to help make the session possible. πŸ’“

I know the timing of this event will have been a big factor. We had such a lovely group join us in April, so I don't believe it's a lack of interest.

With many families still at the end of half term and life generally being busy, I suspect this date simply wasn't the right fit. I will take this into consideration for future events.

I'd really value your feedback. What days and times work best for you? Our consultation had such a strong response from the SEND community, so please let me know what would make attending easier.

I'm hoping I can get something booked in so we'll be back soon.

Sometimes community projects are all about listening, adapting and trying again.

πŸ“’ Public Appeal πŸ“’

We are currently reviewing whether some of our services can continue over the weekend and would really appreciate your help in sharing the information about these events with families, professionals, and community networks who may benefit.

A final decision regarding the whether these services will continue over the weekend will be made by Thursday 4th June at 5pm.

This deadline is necessary to ensure we can give sufficient notice to partner organisations, facilitators, and families who have already made bookings.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and shared our work so far. Every share really does make a difference. πŸ’š

πŸ‘‘πŸŒΏ The Kings and Queens of the Forest have returned this Monday after a two-week break!

The Royals are on a mission to make every Monday afternoon a little wilder, a little muddier, and a lot more magical.

Adorned with nature crowns fit for woodland royalty, loose parts people with big personalities, and possibly the most magnificent mud pies ever to grace a royal banquet table.

Long live the mud! πŸ‘‘πŸ€ŽπŸŒΏ

🌿 Women's Wellbeing Group – Sunday 7th June 🌿

πŸŽ‰ Our fully funded Women's Wellbeing Group is back! πŸŽ‰

Join us at the wonderful where we'll be making use of both the indoor and outdoor spaces for an afternoon of mindful crafts, gentle wellbeing activities and time to connect with other women.

We're also delighted to welcome Jane from who will be guiding us through a deeply relaxing sound bath experience. Sound baths can help calm the mind, ease tension and create space for reflection and renewal.

Never tried a sound bath before but wondered what it's all about? This is the perfect opportunity to experience one completely free of charge and discover whether it's something that works for you.

This group is primarily for mothers of children with SEND, but if you're experiencing stress, overwhelm or isolation or just crave some space for you, please get in touch – we'd love to welcome you.πŸ’š
