The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) is a world renowned creative and performing arts institution, creating multi-skilled, innovative and career-ready graduates. It was co-founded by our Lead Patron Sir Paul McCartney and Mark Featherstone-Witty (LIPA's Principal), and is housed in his old school, which underwent a multi-million pound renovation to transform it into a state-of-the-art performing arts higher education institution. Today LIPA has a reputation for being one of the UK's leading higher education institutions. LIPA provides education and training in performing arts, theatre and performance design and technology and management disciplines in a hands-on, collaborative environment. LIPA offers degree courses in Acting, Applied Theatre & Community Drama, Dance, Music Theatre and Entertainment Management, Music, Sound Technology, Theatre and Performance Design and Theatre and Performance Technology. We also run full-time one year Foundation Certificates in Performing Arts (Acting); Performing Arts (Dance); Performing Arts (Singing); and Popular Music and Sound Technology. We train students for a future of sustained employment. Most recent figures have shown that over the most recent four year period, 93% of LIPA’s graduates are in work three years after leaving, while 87% work in the performing arts. To achieve this, our curriculum is constantly being revised. We offer a range of programmes, including:

Congratulations to LIPA alumni Georgy Pleece, Phoebe Mercer, Alexander McGonagle and Elizabeth Huskisson (all Acting, 2021) who have received the LIPA Enterprise fund for their show "How Am I Doing Today?" 👏

Directed by Elizabeth Huskisson, Artistic Director of Sort Sol Theatre company, How Am I Doing Today? is a dark comedy that spirals into the absurd, exploring the world of customer services, consumerism and our own perceptions of success.

Georgy, who wrote the show said, "Training at LIPA gave me fundamental skills in devising and character that I’ve been able to transfer over to my scriptwriting for theatre and short film. I also met lifelong friends and artistic collaborators who have helped these projects come to life."

You can watch How Am I Today? at the Old Red Lion Theatre in London on 19th, 20th and 21st of October at 8:30pm!

We were incredibly privileged at the end of the last teaching year to welcome Oscar and BAFTA Awarding winning sound editor John Warhurst to LIPA.🌟

John's credits include Bohemian Rhapsody, for which he received the Oscar for sound editing with Nina Hartstone; Michael, the highest-ever grossing biography; Bob Marley: One Love and Les Misérables.

John spent time with our Sound Technology and Filmmaking students, taking them on a deep dive through his creative process using examples of his work and discussing his use of 'worldizing' and its advantages over sound manipulation.
