Happy New School Year! 🎒🍂

Today, colleagues from across The People’s Learning Trust came together at Delamere Forest for a gentle start to the new academic year.

Our wellbeing walk gave everyone time to reconnect after the summer, meet colleagues from across our schools, enjoy the fresh air and have some proper conversations before the busy term begins.

A simple way to start the year, but an important one… making time for people, relationships and wellbeing before we turn our attention back to the children and communities we serve.

Wishing all of our staff, pupils and families across TPLT a happy, positive and successful new school year.

AI-generated content, cloned voices, deepfake videos and fabricated screenshots are making it harder for young people to recognise what is genuine online.

Our latest guide supports parents, carers and educators in helping children build the confidence and critical thinking skills needed to question digital content.

The guide explores:
• How AI-generated content and deepfakes can appear convincing
• Why familiar voices, polished presentation and repeated claims should not automatically be trusted
• Risks linked to fake accounts, impersonation and misinformation
• The importance of source-checking and verifying messages through another route
• How adults can respond when harmful or deceptive content targets a child

With clear, practical advice, this resource helps adults strengthen digital literacy and support safer, more informed online experiences.

Today is another proud day across The People’s Learning Trust as young people receive their GCSE results.

At Waterside Academy and Everton Free School & College, students are finding out the results of years of hard work, alongside the support of their families and the staff who have taught, encouraged and challenged them along the way.

Last week we celebrated A Level results. Today it is GCSEs. Different qualifications, different journeys and different next steps — but the same sense of pride in seeing young people move forward.

As a Trust working across primary and secondary education, we see the whole journey. Strong foundations matter. So does what happens next: the relationships, teaching, support and opportunities that help young people build confidence, develop their strengths and keep going when things are difficult.

For some students, today will bring exactly the results they hoped for. For others, the route ahead may look a little different from the one they had planned. Both are part of education, and neither defines the person they will become.

So to every student receiving results across TPLT today: well done. Be proud of how far you have come, and look forward to what comes next.

And to the families, teachers and staff supporting them today — thank you.

AI chatbots are increasingly part of children’s digital lives, with tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini and My AI being used for questions, ideas, homework support and content generation.

While these tools can create opportunities for learning and creativity, they also introduce important safeguarding, wellbeing and learning considerations.

Our latest guide supports parents, carers and educators in understanding how AI chatbots work and how to help young people use them responsibly.

The guide explores:
• Inaccurate information and the need for critical evaluation
• Inappropriate content and age-related concerns
• Academic dishonesty and over-reliance
• Emotional dependency and blurred boundaries
• Data privacy risks and safe use of settings

With clear, practical advice, this resource helps adults support safe, balanced and informed AI use.

This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when schools, charities and community organisations work together with a shared purpose.

At The People’s Learning Trust, we believe every child deserves opportunities that broaden horizons, build confidence and develop the skills they need for life. The Let’s Paddle for Positive Change project is a brilliant example of that in action.

Working alongside Canal & River Trust and Groundswell Innovation Fund, colleagues at Waterside Academy have helped create something with a lasting legacy. By improving access to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, developing staff expertise and embedding paddlesport into the school’s curriculum and enrichment offer, this project will continue to benefit children and young people for years to come.

The impact report demonstrates the strength of the partnership, while the accompanying video brings the project to life through the voices of the staff and pupils involved. It’s well worth watching.

Congratulations to everyone who has contributed to this outstanding initiative. We are incredibly proud to see Waterside Academy leading the way and demonstrating how collaboration can create meaningful opportunities and lasting change for young people across our communities. Well done to all the trust schools that completed this programme.
It was a great chance to spread the love of reading and share our reading cultures.

Children taking part in the Big Book Club completed a six-session programme designed to build confidence and develop a stronger love of reading. We are very proud of every child who took part and grateful to the parents and family members who supported the sessions.
