“My work demonstrates the impact of dedicated research, collaboration, and community engagement in addressing complex public health challenges. It continues to inform and improve su***de prevention strategies, offering hope and support to those in crisis.”

To mark ***dePreventionDay we are highlighting the amazing work Professor Pooja Saini is doing as Honorary Su***de Prevention Research Lead for Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.

She is working on prevention and early intervention to reduce su***de rates, improve support for people who have self-harmed and for people bereaved by su***de.

Today, she is presenting at the World Su***de Prevention Day Conference hosted by Liverpool John Moores University in collaboration with M-RIC, Liverpool City Council, Su***de Prevention Partnership Cheshire and Merseyside and Champs Public Health Collaborative.

To mark ***dePreventionDay tomorrow we are highlighting some of the vital work taking place within M-RIC and Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust to strengthen care and support for people in suicidal crisis.

In October, Dr Oladayo Bifarin, Research Effectiveness Lead, is holding a Su***de Prevention Knowledge Mobilisation event for staff to discuss current practice, challenges and research related to su***de prevention.

Dr Bifarin said:

“It is so important that on ***dePreventionDay we reflect on the vital work of mental health professionals to support individuals, reduce stigma and raise awareness of su***de. Here at M-RIC, we want to continue this conversation and drive forward research in this space. That’s why we are organising an event for staff to share their perspectives and learnings about su***de prevention. It will be fantastic to see that network come together and explore future research priorities relating to su***de prevention.”

Later this week it is ***dePreventionDay, an important opportunity to raise awareness, reduce stigma and recognise the hard work of health professionals who are working to shape su***de prevention efforts in their daily roles and through research.

Claire Holder, Nurse Consultant and Approved Clinician at Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, is interested in how we improve risk management and support service users, carers and staff. She said:

“Never be afraid to ask someone about su***de. Asking doesn’t put the thought into someone’s mind, it can open the door to compassion, connection and help. When someone is in their darkest moments and can no longer see hope, we can hold that hope for them until they are able to see it again. There is always a way through and no one should have to find it alone.”

We have launched a new NHS mental health app directory to offer online support for children and young people in Cheshire and Merseyside.

Featuring apps covering topics from anxiety and low mood to challenges with sleep problems and eating plus much more, the platform is designed to help guide young people towards safe, effective and trusted mental health apps online.

The platform was developed with clinical experts from Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust and the Organisation for the Review of Care and Health Apps (ORCHA) and was designed using input from children and young people.
