The morning after the night before 🎄🌟 ❤️

Last night we held our annual This Charming Christmas show to celebrate the amazing young people my team and I have the pleasure of working with. It’s an event that I’ve made a festive staple for the last 9 years and last night felt more poignant than ever.

I set This Charming House up in 2012 in somewhat of a daze. I kind of had a plan: I didn’t want to to leave music behind.

For years I’d ploughed away in various bands alongside school jobs that allowed me to go to London on a random Tuesday and all of a sudden it just stopped. Not sure really why, but perhaps a realisation it just wasn’t the path for the time.

Since then we’ve got alongside countless young people to try and teach music but differently. I always believed there was deep connect between the arts and the way we feel about ourselves. I’m no genius, it’s everywhere. I always feel that the music comes, but it’s secondary to the person that plays it.

This has always been the constant. Through highs and even lower lows it’s been the only thing that never changed. Why? Because of you. At times I was rubbish. Tearful, low, distracted but always real. And at other times, over the moon. Getting married, having kids and celebrating the England team. We’ve journeyed together. As clients have become friends, we’ve become TCH family.

For the last five years, I’ve slowly figured out exactly why I feel TCH is still here. It’s about connection.

I’m so glad that I’ve been able to stand alongside your ‘ones’. See them go to their own battles and come out victorious. Witness them grow literally a quarter taller than me. I don’t want to be *just* a teacher. This is a 2 way experience. Because of your young people, I’m learning to be a better person for all people ❤️

Last night, I half planned to suggest it was to be my last show. This year has been professionally so tough, and I’ve had to deal with defeats of all kinds and I’ve questioned whether my approach to work is wanted. But last night you reminded me that this isn’t about a product that’s good or bad, it’s about seeing the individual and wanting them to fly 🤍

WOW 🤩 What a night! 🎄 it wasn’t quite how we’d imagined it but it was almost even more Christmassy! It was such a privilege to join with some of our students and play some Christmassy tunes in front of the most incredible stable and tree!

Thank you 🙏🏻 to all you amazing families that have stuck by us throughout the weirdest 2 years. I promise there will be a proper show and that this was just a bit of a stopgap, but I hope it made you feel as warm as it did, me 🌟

A huge shoutout to & the returning Jack from for all their help putting on an amazing show!

Hi all,

Thank you for your patience in regards to the outcome of our survey about the concert. It's been an extremely tough decision to make but I have decided based on the outcome of that survey that it is indeed best to postpone This Charming Christmas. Please keep hold of your tickets as these will be re-issued at another date. I appreciate that this is going to be very sad news for the kids who have been working their socks off. I, too, am feeling very upset about it but I think with it only being a week before Christmas, I would feel awful if any of you ended up in isolation because of it.

However, I was struck by a comment that I heard the comedian Jason Manford say the other day about how we've spent the last year adapting and changing things at last minute. As creatives, a lot of us have gotten pretty good at finding creative solutions to be able to continue to do what we do. And so I'm delighted to announce that on Sunday (19th December) we have a plan B.....you are all invited to join us outside for a This Charming Party from 6-7.30pm!

We are going to set up as a band outside the front of Wick Hall and we would love you all to come in your family bubbles and have a festive sing-song with us. Kind of like an open mic, us teachers will play a lot of the songs from the show, for us all to sing together, safely. Children are welcome to bring their guitar to play along with the songs they know, and the drummers/piano players could maybe join us on stage for a song. A completely informal event, no need for tickets, or tell us if you are or aren't coming....just a way of us saying we're sorry that it's not the event you were hoping for. If your child wants to perform something, I'll have a sign up sheet and they can play to everyone! Does this sound cool?

We will have the AMAZING Barista Bros on hand for hot drinks and amazing snacks (bring your pennies), and it's still a chance to celebrate the amazing families of This Charming House.

It's hopefully just a way of us giving something back for the last 2 years, and a promise that we WILL do a proper concert again as soon as we can. Until then, see you outside Wick Hall, on Sunday 19th December, in your family bubbles at 6pm. I really hope you'll come.

I just wanted to confirm the 2 performances that GLEE will be involved in. Could you please reply to this email with their full to confirm that your child can/can not take part in both shows? This was I have a list of names that I'm expecting. A formal letter will follow.

December 13th - 6pm
Summerlea Carols by Candlelight
This is a school event and there will be a letter home next week.

December 19th - 6pm
This Charming Christmas
This is the annual concert that my music school put on and the GLEE club will be singing as part of the 2 hour show. This will be a mixture of trad carols & festive songs alongside a live band. This is NOT a school event.

There are only 150 tickets available so I'm going to ask that people try and limit themselves to 2 tickets per child as I don't want people missing out.

I'm afraid I won't be replying to emails about tickets etc as there are about 70 students taking part in the show and I need to concentrate on the creative side of the event. But I am so thankful for your children and the GLEE club, it's the highlight of my week!
