From the age of 15, when I found myself in a year 1 classroom for a week’s work experience, I knew that I’d found my job for life. After graduating from Oxford Brookes University with a BA (Hons) in Teacher Education, I taught as a year 4 class teacher at a primary school in Swindon. Following the birth of my eldest child, I began tutoring from home. I never quite made it back to class teaching at
this stage. My ongoing back pain turned out to be a spinal cord tumour and my career came to a halt as I underwent major neurosurgery in 2005. We relocated to Northamptonshire in 2010 and it was then that I decided I was ready to work in a classroom again. I was very lucky and immediately found work as a self-employed supply teacher at some local village primary schools - an amazing job where I was fortunate enough to gain a huge amount of experience teaching all year groups. During this time, I also set up and ran a specialist maths SATs group in schools to work with small groups to prepare children for their year 6 SATs. After teaching hundreds of amazing children in classrooms, I am now focusing solely on tuition. I have a fully resourced classroom here at my home in Litchborough, where I tutor children on a 1:1 weekly basis, with many more attending for holiday tutoring. It is an amazing job and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to work with so many lovely children. In addition to the private work here at my house, I also work with Northamptonshire County Council tutoring children who are not in mainstream education. This part of my job is hugely challenging but incredibly rewarding. I have over 20 years experience in education. I have worked with children of all abilities, stretching and challenging more able pupils and supporting pupils who are struggling or falling behind. I have experience in working with children with a wide variety of special educational needs including autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD. I also work with children experiencing anxiety, an issue very close to my heart. I fully understand the impact anxiety can have on life in general and also learning. Lessons here go at exactly the right pace to suit your child and to accommodate their needs. Anything can be achieved with the right support and I can provide that. I work with children of all ages from 4-11. I can provide support for all their maths and literacy needs, as well as providing preparation for SATs. I also work with children who are looking to sit common entrance exams to secure a place at an independent school or to prepare for NSB/NSG.
