Sadly there have been recent news reports about the deaths of young children due to food-related choking: one of these deaths has been reported as the result of the child choking on a grape.

Young children have narrow airways and are still learning to chew, breathe and swallow in the right order (add talking or moving around and it gets really complicated).

The size and shape of whole grapes means they can completely plug a child’s airway. The tight seal produced by the grape’s smooth surface makes them difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.

🍇Grapes should be chopped in half lengthways and ideally in quarters before being given to children.

➡STAY – Stay with children when they’re eating – it’s the biggest thing you can do for them
➡STILL – Get children to sit still – it can be a battle but it’s much safer

In our Birdies car park hedging we found a honey bee swarm with their queen!!

We were helped by Michael who came to rescue us and the bee’s and graciously took the time to show and teach us all about them!!

What a lovely experience for the children :)

Lisburn City Neighbourhood Team attended Birdies Day Nursery today to chat about the role of Police and how to keep safe. It was great to meet everyone.

The kids loved getting to have a go in the Police car and seeing the lights and sirens
