A huge well done to the pupils across Year 8-12 who have been recognised by their teachers for consistently upholding our REACH values and showing such enthusiasm and readiness to learn!
As a little reward for their fantastic efforts, our Star Geographers enjoyed some well-deserved lollies and biscuits.
We love seeing such a fantastic work ethic and positive attitude towards learning. Keep up the brilliant work, everyone. We can’t wait to recognise more fantastic work in October!

Today we had our annual Language Device Menu lesson! In groups pupils worked together to create a menu, it included vivid descriptions filled with a variety of language techniques! We then turned our classroom into a restaurant and presented these to one another.

🥐🌍 European Day of Languages Bake Off 🌍🍰
A huge well done to everyone who entered our European Day of Languages Bake Off! We have been amazed by the creativity, effort and delicious-looking bakes inspired by different countries and cultures.
Learning a language is about so much more than just communicating. It helps us explore new cultures, traditions and of course the wonderful foods that make each country unique.
Thank you to all who took part and made this celebration such a success.

Congratulations to Year 11 pupil Cameron R from Canal Boxing Club who won the Robert Burns Belt at the weekend, winning a fight against the current Scottish Champion. Cameron outscored his opponent in each round to add to his impressive boxing list of achievements in recent years. A superb achievement. Well done Cameron.

Our Year 13 and 14 Health and Social Care pupils had a fantastic afternoon at Girls Model for the Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) Nursing Event.
The pupils got hands-on experience in the LJMU Mini Hospital, VR medical simulation and got to practice key clinical skills.

Alongside speaking to current LJMU nursing students and staff, this was a brilliant glimpse into nursing careers.

Thank you for LJMU for the invitation and to the staff and student mentors for such an enjoyable and engaging afternoon.

A key part of learning a new language is enjoyment. At Laurelhill we try to make language lessons engaging and relevant to our young people. Here is a snapshot of the range of activities we use:
Year 12 GCSE Spanish class played 'one pen one dice' to make translation fun, Year 10 Spanish have been conducting a survey about school subjects and Year 9 French played a card game to help learn family members in French.

This week's Subject Spotlight is Modern Languages. Pupils in Laurelhill study either French or Spanish at Key Stage 3, with the option of continuing their language to GCSE level.

Learning a language is about so much more than vocabulary and grammar. It opens a window to the diverse cultures, traditions, and perspectives found across Europe. By developing their language skills, our pupils are also broadening their understanding of the world around them and becoming more confident global citizens.
Pupils learn about the topics of food, school and holidays in France and Spain, and have also had the opportunity to try food and drinks in lessons!
