We will be focusing on:

Today we are looking at vocabulary questions. Specifically synonyms and antonyms.
📚 Synonym: a word that means the same or almost the same as another word.
Example: happy — joyful.
📚Antonym: a word that means the opposite of another word.
Example: hot — cold.

Finding synonyms & antonyms in SEAG passages — quick guide 🔎📚

☑ Read the sentence around the word — context gives meaning. 🧠➡️
☑ Check prefixes/suffixes (un-, re-, -less) to spot opposites or related words. 🔁❌
☑ Try swapping a possible synonym/antonym into the sentence — does it still make sense? 🔄✅❌
☑ Mind tone & intensity — synonyms can be milder/stronger (cold vs freezing). 🌡️
☑ If stuck, underline the sentence and scan the paragraph for a matching idea. ✏️🔍

Today we are looking at inference questions. These can be tricky for 10/11 year olds, so it is important to teach the skill.
Inference = reading between the lines — work out what the author implies but doesn’t say outright.

📍Traits & motives: choices reveal personality (careful packing → cautious) 🧭🪖

📍Author’s intent/tone: word choice creates mood (“aggressively” → threatening) 🎭🌪️
