Young Creatives Level 2: Drawing inspired by William Kentridge 🎨✨
Our Level 2 artists dived into the fluid world of William Kentridge, exploring his distinctive approach to charcoal drawing and stop-frame animation after watching a short interview and his film Mine.
Working from a view of Venice, the students began gestural charcoal works where the eraser became a tool for making marks rather than fixing mistakes. By lifting tone, they captured moving water, light reflections, and boats drifting down the canal. Following Kentridge's practice, they also documented the progression of their drawings on their phones at key stages.
They’ve made a fantastic start, and we’ll aim to finish these pieces next week! Take a look at their progress so far 👇
