🔥 Just look at the skills this young learner has developed through his Forest School sessions! 🌳

He now understands and confidently follows all the safety practices we have in place when constructing and working with fire.

He has developed the knowledge and practical skills to construct, light and safely feed a fire — all within a safe, controlled environment. 🔥

🌳 Building, testing, learning!

Den building is so much more than building a shelter. It’s hands-on STEM and engineering, developing practical, social and cognitive skills along the way.

This young warrior was working on his spatial awareness, gross motor skills, communication, problem-solving, bushcraft skills and resilience.

He started by building the roof, then tested its stability by sitting on it… built some more… and then decided to stand on it! 🙃

And then… straight through the roof he went! 😂 Yikes! Thankfully, all was good!

We had a chat about how many attempts it probably took people to get house-building right. 😍

The best part? He asked me not to let anyone touch it because he was coming back next week to carry on building!

Now THAT is resilience and determination! 💚🌳

🌿 The magic of outdoor learning… 🪶🐦

Our first Wild Forest Friday back started with one young person discovering this beautiful, perfectly designed little nest. 🪺

It sparked a conversation about what bird it might have belonged to. It was SO tiny — it was hard to believe that a bird could be small enough to build such a teeny-weany nest, lay eggs and sit inside it! 🥹

This inspired one little warrior to make his very own nest from clay. He spent almost an hour carefully constructing it, paying attention to every little detail.

I thought this was the perfect opportunity to bring out the bird field guide… and that opened up a whole new conversation! 🐦‍⬛🦉🪽

And this is exactly what I love about outdoor learning. ❤️

We follow where the young learner’s curiosity takes them — flowing with their interests and learning through exploration, creativity, discovery and curiosity. 🌳🍂

Sometimes the best learning moments are the ones we never planned. 💚

Good luck to all the kids starting school tomorrow, those going back after the summer, and those starting high school. 🎒💚

School can be fun and exciting for some children, but for others it can feel overwhelming and bring feelings of anxiety, stress and even dread.🙁

Every child is different, and that’s okay. Some children may need a little more reassurance, patience and support as they settle back into school life.

Let’s give them the space to talk about how they’re feeling. Sometimes just knowing that someone understands.

I'm looking forward to starting back with the Inspire learning pathway team in partnership with West Lothian Council with young people who experience those difficulties.

It was a real pleasure to deliver an outdoor wellbeing session for such a wonderful group of people who work or attend this truly worthwhile charity!

It was a joy to have fun and share the healing power of being outdoors in nature connect around the camp fire and spend time in nature 🌳💚

I hope everyone left a little lighter, energised and connected more to themselves and mother nature 🙏
