With the start of a new term, everyone getting out and about and enjoying themselves over the summer, and us heading into sickness season again, it’s a good time for a little reminder! 🤧

I’ve updated my Sickness & Illness Poster with the current guidance and important reminders for the setting.

Please take a few minutes to have a read through, so we’re all clear on the policies around illness, when children need to stay at home and when they can return.

Thank you, as always, for helping to keep all of our children, families and staff as healthy as possible this term. ❤️

Hello, my name is Danielle. I am an Ofsted-registered childminder in Lingfield with 10 years’ experience in childcare.

I worked in a preschool for 5 years and have been childminding for the past 5 years, offering a warm, home-from-home setting for young children.
I am also a mum to five children aged 9–16.
Our home includes two cats and one very friendly dog, all of whom are used to being around children.

I provide a nurturing environment where children learn through play, enjoy stories and songs, adult-led activities and free play, and regularly attend baby and toddler groups, rhyme time, parks, farms and other local outings.

If you are looking for a caring, experienced childminder for your little one, please feel free to get in touch for more information or to arrange a visit.

What a lovely end of term treat for us all today

We visited the sea life centre in brighton, had some chips, played on the beach, dipped our feet in the sea and finished the day off with a yummy ice cream.

The children were so well behaved, listening and following instructions and just enjoying everyone's company and the lovely weather 🏖🐠☀️🥰

This week has certainly been a challenge, not only for myself but especially for the little ones. However, I'm pleased to say we all made it through the heatwave with plenty of water play 💦 to keep cool, lots of drinks to stay hydrated, and some lovely long naps 🥵☀️

I am so proud of how well the children have coped, and incredibly grateful for the continued support from their parents in helping to keep them happy, hydrated, comfortable, and safe 🥰

☀️ Dear Early Years Practitioners,

This week the UK has apparently decided it’s the Bahamas… just without the sea, the swimming pool, the palm trees, the all-inclusive cocktails and someone bringing us cold drinks every half an hour. 😆🌴

Instead, we’ll be applying sun cream to wriggly children, refilling water bottles for the 47th time, chasing hats around the garden, and explaining why we can’t spend the entire day eating ice lollies.

The plans may change.
The routines may wobble.
The children may be tired.

But if they go home cool, hydrated, happy and full of memories, then we’ve done our job. ❤️

And while we’re busy looking after everyone else, let’s not forget to look after ourselves too.

💦 Drink the water, not just hand it out.
🧴 Put your own sun cream on before the children’s.
🍉 Eat your lunch instead of surviving on leftover cucumber sticks and a rogue rice cake.
🌳 Sit in the shade for five minutes when you can.
☕ And remember that an iced coffee absolutely counts as self-care this week.

If anyone asks, we’re not childminders, nursery practitioners or teachers this week.

We’re part childcare professional, part hydration officer, part holiday rep, and part lifeguard. 😂

Sending love to all the incredible early years practitioners navigating this week’s heatwave.

Stay cool, be kind to yourselves, and remember… you can’t pour from an empty water bottle. 😉

The Nourished Child ❤️

As some of you may have already seen or heard, updated safer sleep guidance for childcare settings has been introduced following recommendations from The Lullaby Trust, and these requirements will be reflected within the EYFS from September.

Over the coming months, I will be making some adjustments to sleep arrangements within my setting to ensure I remain fully compliant with the latest guidance and continue to provide the safest possible sleeping environment for all children.

The main changes are:

• Children will now sleep on individual sleep mats with their own bedding, including their own sheets and blankets.

• Babies under 12 months of age will sleep in a travel cot and all recommended safer sleep practices will be followed, including regular checks and monitoring throughout their sleep.

• Sleeping in buggies will no longer be used as a routine sleep arrangement within the setting. Buggies may still be used for naps while we are out on outings; however, if a child falls asleep in a buggy or car seat, I will transfer them to an appropriate sleep surface as soon as we return home, where it is safe and practical to do so, allowing them to continue their sleep.

These changes are designed to reduce the risk of sleep-related accidents and ensure that all children have a safe, comfortable, and suitable place to rest.

If you have any questions regarding the new safer sleep guidance or how these changes may affect your child's routine, please feel free to speak to me.

Thank you for your continued support.
