West Drive Quarter Horses We have 3 instructors: Joe Midgley, Lauren Bustin and Tom Wilkinson.

We are a fully licensed & insured Western riding school offering one to one or group lessons on our trained American Quarter Horses at Sudbrooke Park Cattle Company, Lincoln.

We have an experience day running on Thursday 17th September with a space or two on it!

The day consists of a morning lesson, where you learn a bit about all the western equipment, and different types of saddles/bits. You’ll ride in the arena, and figure out all the different buttons and theory on how to move a cow.

Then lunch! Enjoy the homegrown beef that you’ll ride around in the afternoon (veggies also welcome)

In the afternoon we’ll load up into the Ford F350 and head down the road to check and move cattle out in the fields - there really is no experience like it!

It’s £300pp for the day. Lunch included!

At West drive, we want you to learn to ride! And we think that the best way to do that is by riding! You won’t spend 6 months in a walk or on a lead rein…

If we run out of horses though, you may have to ride a bull

This Monday we had one of our ranch experience days with a lady and gentleman from West Yorkshire.

The day started with a private lesson in the arena and on the obstacle course. Then we had home grown beef bagels for lunch!

In the afternoon we loaded up and headed down the road to check cows. Our riders learned about the different breeds we have, and signs to look for to see a cow isn’t well and how to treat it. They also helped to load a bull into the trailer to move back to Sudbrooke.

All in all it was a great day!

It was the first ERCHA show of the year at Sudbrooke Park Cattle Company this weekend! All of our instructors were competing as were most of the horses in the riding school!

Joe Midgley competed his own horse, Remy and one in training (Picnic). He won the Open Two Rein Fence work!

Tom Wilkinson won the Cowboy class with Rubin. Tom also showed Bugsy and Evie, winning the two rein Spectacular on Sunday!

Lauren Bustin had a fantastic show competing on Penny. Lauren won the Open Bridle Spectacular along with most of the classes she entered! Well done!

Herbie competed in the Herd work with Chloe Wilkinson winning the Ranch cutting!

Charlie won the Non pro herdwork with Harriet Styles!

As well as the cowboy class with Tom, you might have seen Rubin moving cattle around and turning back with George Willmot in the saddle

Dylan was ridden by Bella Bar, who won the Non pro bridle spectacular!

Overall, I’d say our horses and riders were fantastic! Well done to everyone that competed.

Since our riding school opened its doors we have been busy teaching people from near and far all about western riding at Sudbrooke Park Cattle Company

Now, we’re excited to go one bigger! Alongside our week long ranch holiday, you can now have a one (or more) day Ranch experience!

Guided by Joe Midgley Horsemanship ( www.joemidgleyhorsemanship.co.uk ) , you’ll experience life working on a real cattle ranch! You’ll meet your own working western horse for the day, and together you’ll spend the day working and riding around the ranch!

Get to know your horse in the arena in the morning, and become familiar with the movements and techniques you need to work cattle. Learn to handle a rope, work gates and navigate some obstacles before heading inside for lunch.

In the afternoon you’ll head out to check cattle across different pastures!

Minimum of two people per experience day

If you’d like to book a couple of days together and make a mini holiday, we can accommodate that too!

Don’t hesitate to get in touch! There are limited dates available!

Priced at £300pp to include horse hire, lunch and the days instruction

Can Remy open a gate without reins?

A defining characteristic of working western horses is their ability to help their rider with daily tasks on the ranch. Moving cattle, opening gates, roping, dragging things around - we need our horses (and riders) to be handy!
