Rainbows Day Nursery

It’s that time of year again when mini eggs are lining the supermarket shelves. But, did you know that, just like grapes, they are the perfect size to block a small child’s airway and choke them? And, their hard shell can make it difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.

With whole grapes we advise cutting them in half lengthways and ideally into quarters to create thin strips. But chopping up mini eggs isn’t as easy. So, what can you do?

1. Hide them from the children and eat them yourself – good luck with that!

2. Break them into small pieces with a rolling pin. Or, crush them in a pestle and mortar. Or melt them a little first.

3. Opt for a different treat. Larger, hollow eggs are much safer for little ones.

🖌️🎨Today Popolo Ceramics came to nursery for the Mother's Day pottery painting session. The children and parents/carers had a lovely time. 🖌️🎨

🐉🥢✨Today we continued our Chinese New Year celebrations! The children enjoyed cooking noodles outside and learning about their special meaning – long noodles symbolise long life and good luck.

We also watched and took part in a vibrant dragon dance, learning how the dragon represents strength, wisdom and good fortune.

We look forward to continuing our celebrations and sharing more special moments with you! 🐉🥢✨

National apprentice week

🌈 Our Amazing Apprentices at Rainbows! 🌈

At Rainbows, we are lucky to have a fantastic group of apprentices who work alongside our experienced team to create a nurturing, joyful, and enriching environment for your child. 🌟 These apprentices are passionate about early childhood education 📚 and are dedicated to supporting your child’s growth in meaningful ways. 💖

We have to fabulous apprentices Alana & Lexi, Alana is based in our Toddler Room 🍼 Lexi is based in our preschool room, they are both working hard towards their Level 2 qualification in early childhood education 📚✨

Lexi began her journey at our sister setting Hartsholme Preschool and kids club in February 2024 and transitioned to Rainbows in April 2025, continuing her Level 2 Childcare.
Alana joined Rainbows in July 2024, coming straight from college and starting her Level 2 Childcare apprenticeship. 👏

🚧 This Week’s Learning in the toddler room: Occupations 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️
Tomorrow our toddlers will be exploring the exciting world of construction workers and vehicles!
The children will enjoy building, digging, and role-playing with construction toys while learning about different vehicles and what they do. Through hands-on play, they’ll be developing their language, imagination, and fine and gross motor skills. 🚜🧱
We’re looking forward to lots of busy builders, big trucks, and creative play!
