Student Support Day Thursday 28th May and Book of Condolences

After the tragic news this week of the death of Declan Sawyer, we would like to offer students the opportunity to attend the academy on Thursday 28th May between 10:00 and 14:00.

This will give students and staff the opportunity to come together and talk about their memories of Declan and how they feel, as part of the grieving process. Where required, there will also be an opportunity for students to access counsellor support, with the consent of their parents/carers.

The ethos of the day is to support the grieving process and to allow staff and students to share and commemorate Declan’s life. We will also be opening our Book of Condolences so that all members of the Priory Lincoln learning community can contribute to a lasting memory of Declan.

Please be aware that Thursday is accessible to staff and students only; however, we will look to provide an opportunity for other members of our community to sign the Book of Condolences in due course. If you wish for your child to attend, we ask that you read the InTouch message sent by Mr Whitaker, which contains full details of the day and an MS Form to give consent for attendance.

Declan’s family have requested privacy as they grieve the loss of their son, and we ask that all continue to respect this request. As a learning community, we will come together to grieve for Declan and to support each other in the coming days, weeks, and months.

Please do contact [email protected] if your child needs support during this difficult time.

Thank you for your kindness, understanding and care.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we write to share some deeply sad news with you. We have learned that one of our Year 10 students, Declan Sawyer has tragically passed away. This loss is devasting, and our entire Priory Lincoln learning community is grieving alongside Declan’s family and friends.

Declan was a valued member of our academy and a loyal friend to many students. His presence and character in our Academy will be sorely missed by staff and students alike, and his absence will be felt profoundly in the coming days, weeks and months ahead.

At times like this, it is natural for students to experience a wide range of emotions. We want to reassure you that we are here to support every member of our community. Our pastoral teams, counsellors and trusted adults across the school are available for any student who wishes to talk, reflect or simply sit with someone they know and trust. Students, parents and carers have been emailed further details of support that is available and how to get in touch where support is required.

We are in close communication with Declan’s family, and we will respect their wishes regarding how the school commemorates and honours Declan. When appropriate, we will share further information about opportunities for the school community to come together in remembrance.

In the meantime, we ask that we all hold the Declan’s family and friends in our thoughts. Moments like this remind us of the importance of compassion, connection and looking after one another.

Thank you for your kindness, understanding and care.

Many thanks to Lincoln City FC for allowing a group of our Year 7 students who regularly demonstrate our values to play on the pitch at the LNER stadium today. As a bonus students got to take pictures with the League One trophy! A fantastic day had by all.

A fantastic morning at The Priory Lincoln motor vehicle event. Year 9 and 12 students were visited by staff from SG Haulage, Scania, Camper UK and Partic. Students learnt about the companies, employment opportunities and skills required. They then had the opportunity to look round the trucks and cars. A truly inspiring event.

Year 12 motor vehicle students visited SG Haulage. This was an excellent experience for the students and staff to have the opportunity to tour the workshops and see a variety of different trucks. Thank you to Ben Gaunt and Dale Ford for taking the time to share their experience of working in the company and the amazing opportunities it can provide. We look forward to them visiting the school along with other companies from the haulage and leisure industries on Thursday.
