Looking forward to restoring this large water gilt mirror frame however before any gilding restoration is carried out the frame requires significant structural stabilisation.

All six 18th century gilt bronze sconces are now back with our client and are looking mighty fine in the hallway.
The last photograph shows the difference between toned and untoned gilding. The acorns and leaves etc. have been toned and the rest has yet to receive any. Toning accentuates line and form making the gilding less garish (if that's even possible) and significantly aids in interpretation of the object.

ENCORE! ENCORE! Reverse glass gilded sign commission.

Here the design is first painted onto the reverse of the glass and then gilded with real gold leaf. Traditionally the gilding is applied first, before any painting is carried out, that way the glass can be scolded with boiling water. The scolding heats the glass gives a bright, bright gild.

We make our own Shell Gold so it is the exact match for retouching artwork and frames etc.
