We would like to make you aware of an upcoming East Midlands Area Kata Course, which is particularly important for club members who are planning to grade to Junior Blue Belt or above, or Senior Green Belt or above, over the next 12 months.

East Midlands Area Kata Course
📅 Sunday 11th October 2026
⏰ 10:00am – 2:00pm
📍 Shudan Judo Club, Drill Hall, 43 Great Park St, Wellingborough, NN8 4PH

Why is this course important?
Kata is an important part of the grading syllabus at the higher junior and senior grades. Unfortunately, due to the limited time available during our regular club sessions, we are unable to provide individual Kata training and sign-offs for members at the club.
Kata sign-offs can be completed at dedicated Kata Courses, such as this one.

Junior gradings are held three times a year, with the next opportunities being:
November 2026
March 2027
July 2027

Therefore, any Junior member currently graded Orange +1 Green Tab or above who intends to grade during the next 12 months should attend this course to ensure they have the required Kata training and sign-off for the Blue Belt syllabus and above.
For Senior members, anyone who has not previously attended a Kata Course and intends to grade above Green Belt at either the November 2026 or March 2027 grading will also need to attend.
We strongly recommend that anyone who falls into these categories takes advantage of this opportunity. Attending the course now will help ensure that Kata does not become a barrier when you are ready to grade.

Please speak to one of the coaches if you are unsure whether this course applies to you or if you have any questions about your next grading.

🎉🥋 What a day! 🥋🎉

Our 2026 Ruston Marconi Judo Club Championships are over for another year, and what a brilliant day it was! From fantastic contests and incredible sportsmanship to plenty of smiles both on and off the mat, it was a great celebration of everything our club is about.

Over the next few days we’ll be sharing lots of photos from the event. 📸 If you snapped any pictures, we’d love to see them too – please share them in the comments below!

A huge round of applause for this year’s annual award winners… 👏

🏆 Throw of the Day – Freddy Church
🥇 Competitive Player of the Year – Bodhi Gregory
⭐ Senior Spirit of Judo – Chris Matchett
🌸 Girls’ Spirit of Judo – Hettie Younger
💪 Boys’ Spirit of Judo – Elliott Skipper

Congratulations to you all – very well deserved! 👏👏

We also want to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone who supported our raffle fundraiser. An early count suggests we’ve raised an amazing £800–£1,000! 🤩

These funds will go towards replacing and expanding our judo mats, a project that will cost the club between £12,000 and £15,000. It’s a big target, but thanks to the generosity of our members, families and supporters, we’re one step closer. Every ticket bought really does make a difference.

A special shout out goes to Sarah Kirk, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes collecting an incredible selection of raffle prizes. Sarah, thank you for all your hard work – it was hugely appreciated! ❤️

Finally, thank you to everyone who competed, volunteered, coached, officiated, donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and cheered from the sidelines. Days like these simply wouldn’t be possible without our amazing judo family.

❤️🥋 Here’s to another fantastic year at Ruston Marconi Judo Club! 🥋❤️

🥋 Back to Business at Ruston Marconi Judo Club! 🥋

After a busy few months with Area & Club Gradings, and hosting the EMA Open Championships at the beginning of July, things are finally settling back into our normal training routine.

It was fantastic to welcome Coaches Ady and Marc back on the mat following their injuries. With our coaching team back to full strength, we'd like to say a huge thank you to every one of our coaches for the time, commitment and hard work they've put in over the last six months to keep the club running so smoothly. We couldn't do it without you!

Our training theme for July is sweeping techniques, and we're looking forward to helping everyone develop new skills over the coming weeks.

Here are a few photos from last week's training session—great effort from everyone! 💪🥋

Finally, don't forget it's our Annual Club Championships this Sunday! We can't wait to see all our members on the mat for what promises to be a fantastic day of judo, fun and celebration.

Just one week to go until the Ruston Marconi Judo Club Annual Club Championships.

This years event looks like it might be our best attended ever, with around 35 of our Junior Club Members having confirmed they’ll be there.

On the lead up to the event, we’ve been busy selling raffle tickets, the club are raising funds to update our mats. Please get in touch if you’d like to buy some, we’ve got some great prizes donated by generous local businesses. Tickets are £2 each, or a book of 5 for £10.

Thank you for your support.
