Eight Year 10 students from Lincoln UTC recently attended a Salters Discovery Day at the University of Nottingham, an inspiring event designed to showcase the exciting opportunities that chemistry offers in both higher education and future careers.

Throughout the day, students heard from a panel of industry professionals, including a company director, a pharmaceutical chemist and a PhD researcher. They shared insights into their work, from developing life-changing medicines to researching innovative ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by capturing carbon dioxide.

The students also experienced university life first-hand by taking part in a practical laboratory session, where they synthesised paracetamol, before enjoying a tour of the campus and speaking with experts about studying and working in STEM.

The group were a real credit to Lincoln UTC, demonstrating exemplary behaviour, enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the day.

A huge thank you to the Salters' Institute and the University of Nottingham for providing such a valuable and inspiring opportunity for our students.

We're incredibly proud of our Year 12 student, Georgia Emmerson, who has been gaining invaluable work experience with Subaru USA at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Working as part of the team supporting the 2025 Gymkhana car, driven by motorsport legend Travis Pastrana, she's experienced life behind the scenes at one of the world's biggest motorsport events.

Throughout the week, Georgia's taken on a variety of responsibilities, including:

Torquing and changing wheels
Adjusting ride height and dampers
Replacing spark plugs and carrying out nightly vehicle checks
Organising team merchandise and supporting driver signing sessions
And this week, Georgia is continuing her experience by assisting with filming shoots featuring the car.

Our year 10 students had a great first day day at Ogwen Cottage in the heart of Snowdonia, Wales, where they're spending the week taking on new challenges and creating lasting memories.

Throughout the week, they'll be developing teamwork, resilience, leadership and independence through a range of exciting outdoor activities, all while surrounded by the stunning Welsh landscape.

It's wonderful to see everyone embracing the experience, supporting one another and stepping outside their comfort zones. We can't wait to share more updates as the week continues!

The first leg of our Hong Kong visit has come to a close. Over eight action-packed days, our visitors immersed themselves in a unique blend of education, creativity and British culture. From exploring our state-of-the-art engineering workshops and developing practical skills through stained glass and model-making projects, to visiting Nottingham Trent University, Lincoln Cathedral, York and the seaside town of Skegness, every day offered new opportunities to learn, create and connect.

It was fantastic to see friendships grow, ideas shared and so much enthusiasm throughout the exchange. We hope our guests leave with unforgettable memories, new skills and a lasting connection with Lincoln UTC.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this international exchange such a success. We can't wait to visit Hong Kong in October!

Last week, our students had the opportunity to attend the Sustainable Futures Event at Riseholme Campus, where they explored the exciting education and career opportunities available across a range of industries.

As well as touring the campus, students took part in a variety of hands-on activities designed to showcase different career pathways. From visiting the Animal Management Centre and taking part in equine rider fitness sessions to to learning about careers in agriculture, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The event gave our students a valuable insight into future careers while allowing them to experience state-of-the-art facilities and learn from industry experts. It was an inspiring day that encouraged students to think about the many exciting opportunities available after school.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a fantastic event and for making our students feel so welcome. We had an amazing time!
