GCSE Higher Maths Tip: to find the area of a segment, subtract the area of the triangle from the area of the sector

To find the perimeter of a shape, add all it’s sides together.

When adding numbers, try to use a column method where you line all the tens, hundreds, etc up. It makes it harder if they are wiggly down the page!

The range of a function is the set of values that come out of the function (use the y axis as a guide on the graph of the function).

The number of arrangements of n different objects in a straight line is given by n!

A counter-example is an example used in proof work to show a statement is incorrect (you only need to find one counter example).

Consecutive numbers are numbers that are next to each other when you are counting. For example, 4 and 5 are consecutive but 4 and 7 are not consecutive.

Prime numbers only have 2 factors; themselves and 1.
So, 7 is a prime number because it’s factors are 1 and 7 but 27 is not a prime number because it’s factors are 1, 3, 9 and 27.

If you struggle with sums like 20 ÷ 4, think of an example – let’s say you have 20 sweets and you share them equally between 4 friends, how many sweets would each friend get?
