Football - using the beautiful game as a context for teaching maths
This is deservedly at the top spot - a football game for you to print out and use in your classroom. Use it to practise multiplication tables, odd and evens and logical thinking skills.

The new online multiplication checks in Y4 and Reception baseline assessment have been criticised by professionals, as has the whole system of national standardised assessment, but 'More than a Score' provides alternatives - an interesting read for all teachers.

Broadbent Maths Monthly - Fractions can be a tricky topic for children to understand. Children need time to explore and reason and there is a grid activity for you to use to help with this.
Base-line assessment is on the agenda again so I've given an outline of the main features of the proposals.
National Poetry Day gave me the chance to read some poems that have a maths feel to them. I've included a simple (and great!) Michael Rosen one for you to read to your class.
