The Reality Timeline: Baseline Survival & Growth

Data from the ONS, GEM, and The Gender Index shows:
Year 1: 80-85% survive.
Year 3: Drops to 55-60% as initial capital runs dry.
Year 5: Only 35-42% remain.
Year 10: Fewer than 20% reach this milestone.

The scaling ceiling is just as rigid: women-led employer SMEs sit at just 14%. Men remain five times more likely to scale past a £1 million turnover.

Layering the Truth: The Intersectional Breakdown

Black & Women of Colour: Fastest-growing startup demographic, yet receive under 0.02% of venture capital, pinning them into under-capitalized sole trader roles.
Disabilities & Neurodivergence: Many exit rigid corporate structures only to face traditional growth models that ignore health or energy fluctuations.
Q***r & Trans Founders: Ignored by institutional datasets, facing deep bias and relying on grassroots economic networks.
