One thing we’ve noticed running DIY and carpentry courses:
Most people don’t lack ability — they lack confidence.

Many arrive convinced they’re “not practical”, often because nobody ever showed them how to safely use tools or approach basic home maintenance.
A few hours later they’re:

repairing damage
solving problems themselves

Practical skills are hugely underrated.
