At around 7pm tonight, phones across England and Wales received a Government emergency alert warning of the serious risk of wildfires during the extreme heat.

There was very little public warning that this alert was coming.

If you are experiencing domestic abuse and have a secret or emergency phone hidden from your partner, tonight’s alert may have caused that phone to make a loud noise or vibrate — even if you normally keep it on silent.

If that has happened to you, or you are worried that your phone has been discovered, please prioritise your immediate safety.

If you are in immediate danger, call 999.

If you cannot speak when you call 999 from a mobile, listen to the operator and, when prompted, press 55 so they know it is a genuine emergency.

If you have a concealed phone, the Government specifically acknowledges this risk and provides instructions for switching emergency alerts off:

iPhone:
Settings → Notifications → scroll to the bottom → switch off Severe Alerts and Extreme Alerts.

Android:
Search Settings for “Emergency Alerts” → switch off Severe Alerts and Extreme Alerts.

Please only make changes to a device when it is safe for you to do so.

Domestic abuse support:

National Domestic Abuse Helpline / Refuge
0808 2000 247 — free, confidential and available 24/7.

Karma Nirvana
0800 5999 247 — specialist national support for people experiencing honour-based abuse and forced marriage.

Galop
0800 999 5428 — specialist support for LGBT+ people experiencing abuse and violence.

Men’s Advice Line
0808 801 0327 — specialist domestic abuse support for men.

SignHealth Domestic Abuse Service
Text ONLY: 07800 003421 — specialist support for Deaf people experiencing domestic or sexual abuse, with BSL support also available.

And if the big national helplines are overwhelmed, please remember that you can search for your local domestic abuse service or IDVA service. You do not have to wait until you are ready to leave a relationship to ask for help or advice.

It is the solar eclipse later! A very exciting event that won’t be seen again until 2081! If you haven’t had a chance to get solar glasses then here’s a great way to view the eclipse safely. Another way is to use a kitchen colander and a piece of paper. Have fun and keep your eyes safe ☀️🌕❤️

🍭🍭🍭It is National Lollipop Day 🍭🍭🍭
Here is some really important safety advice about lollipops and children from Child Accident Prevention Trust

Today is National Lollipop Day. But did you know that just like whole grapes the colourful treats can be a serious choking hazard?

The hard sweet can come off the stick. And it’s the perfect size and shape to completely block a small child’s airway. This happens silently and if you’re not watching you might not even notice.

Please think twice before giving a round lollipop to a young child. Flat lollies are much safer.

If you do give your child one, stay with them whilst they eat it and encourage them to sit still and take small licks instead of putting the whole thing in their mouth.

This week has been a week full of goodbyes and things coming to an end.
We are also saying goodbye to Mr and Mrs French, who are both leaving us because they are retiring. Mrs French has been with us for 21 years and Mr French has been here for 5 years. The children in this term’s ‘Mini Composers’ enrichment group wrote them a song. This was played to them yesterday as we said thank you and goodbye.
💜🩷💙 Mr and Mrs French - the song says it best, you’re marvellous and we will miss you! We all wish you both a very happy and well deserved retirement! Thank you for all that you have done for our school and for our children, every day, over the years. Your hard work and dedication to our school has always been motivated by making sure the children have what they need. We’ll miss you both! 💜🩷💙

Today we had our two leaver’s assemblies for our wonderful Year Two children. All of them were fantastic in performing their poems and songs. Thank you to all family grown ups who came. It was a beautiful blend of tears, joy and pride; a mix of remembering their time with us, and knowing their next stage is exciting.

For all children, families and staff, this time of year feels sad with the ‘lasts’ that are happening this week. Not just for those Year Two children leaving us to move to Junior school, but for all children and families leaving their current year group, moving on from the teachers they have had this year, to move up to the next year group.

We’re working hard this week to support the children navigate this change by helping them know that it is ok to sit with the sad feelings - talking about it, acknowledging it and feeling it. Whilst also helping them recognise that there are exciting and beautiful moments ahead.
