🥚 Year 5 - Science 🐣

Year 5 have been learning all about life cycles in Science and, over the last few weeks, have been patiently incubating eggs. They are delighted that the chicks have finally started hatching — so far, 5 fluffy new arrivals have joined Westgate School, with possibly more still to come!
The children are so excited to watch them grow and can’t wait to spend more time getting to know them as they begin carefully holding and caring for them.

💃🏼International Dance Day!💃🏼

This term in PE, Year 3 have been enjoying working on shapes, turns and jumps in their dance unit. To celebrate International Dance Day recently, they created and performed their own routine! We have some budding dancers in the year group!

🏏Year 5 - Schools Cricket day @ Lincolnshire Country Cricket🏏

The Year 5 girls took part in an exciting morning event to celebrate World Cricket Day, enjoying a fantastic opportunity to develop their skills and confidence in cricket. The session was designed to inspire participation and teamwork, with fun drills and mini-games that introduced key techniques such as batting and fielding. The event also linked to the upcoming Women’s World Cup that England is hosting, helping to raise awareness and enthusiasm for women’s sport. The girls showed great energy and determination throughout, making it a memorable and engaging experience for all involved. A huge thank you to Lincolnshire County Cricket club for having them!

🥚Easter Egg decorating competition 🎨

Weetgate’s Easter egg competition was a fantastic celebration of creativity, with pupils putting so much thought and effort into decorating their eggs. The entries were truly amazing, showcasing a wide range of imaginative designs that impressed everyone who saw them. Well done to those who took part and congratulations to those who won!

🇧🇷🌎Year 5 - Topic celebration 🌎🇺🇸

Year 5 invited parents in for their topic celebration and put them to the test with a fun quiz! The challenge? To find out if the grown-ups were truly “smarter than a 10-year-old.”

The quiz featured a variety of rounds all about the Americas, including Native Americans, geography, earthquakes, and volcanoes — plus the dreaded wipeout round!

Everyone had a fantastic time, with lots of laughter, friendly competition, and impressive knowledge on display. It was great to see who came out on top!

🌓 Year 5 - Planetarium session 🪐

This week, a mobile planetarium visited the hall for Year 5, bringing their space topic to life in an exciting and immersive way. The pupils were fascinated as they explored the planets of the solar system in greater detail and learned about the constellations that light up the night sky. It was a memorable experience that sparked curiosity and deepened their understanding of space.

🦁 Author visit - Bethany Walker 📖

This term, the pupils were visited by local author Bethany Walker. Bethany is a children’s writer who is passionate about storytelling and inspiring young readers. During her visit, she shared her experiences of becoming an author, talked about where she gets her ideas from, and encouraged the children to be creative in their own writing. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the session and were inspired to develop their own stories. Bethany even signed some of the pupils’ books and the ones in our Westgate library!

🔥🌍Year 5 - Magna Science visit 💨🌊

At the start of March, Year 5 visited Magna Science Museum, where they had a fantastic time exploring the interactive exhibits based on the four elements: water, wind, fire, and earth. The children made excellent use of their scientific knowledge as they engaged with the hands-on displays, asking thoughtful questions and testing their ideas.

Before the end of their visit, they took part in an exciting forces workshop, where they explored how the power of forces can be harnessed to help us in everyday life. The session included rockets, flames, and plenty of fun—especially when a few teachers volunteered as targets! It was a memorable and enjoyable day for everyone, and the children returned home full of enthusiasm and new learning.

✨📚World Book Day 2026 📚✨

What a fantastic day we had at Westgate celebrating World Book Day!
It was wonderful to see so many pupils dressed as their favourite book characters, showcasing such creativity and imagination in their fabulous outfits. We also loved seeing others come in their cosy pyjamas—perfect for curling up with a good book!
