Our Early Years really enjoyed planting some lovely flowers with Abbie and Danielle today as part of their Forest School activities. They enjoyed digging down to make enough space, spoke about what they need to grow, and smelt the different herbs-what a lovely time!

Our Early Years children were very excited today with a new rug!
They discovered they could make marks using their fingers and made different patterns, they then laid down on it to feel how "soft" and *smooth" it is-and moved their arms and legs to feel the texture.
They then came up with the idea to take off their socks and shoes and feel it with their feet!
We are going to extend on this next week and provide some sensory experiences to explore with their feet!
The children have had a really lovely time!

By the time the children move in to our Early Years room, they are building on those foundations they have made throughout the nursery.
They feel safe, secure, valued and seen in the setting, where their ideas are listened too, and they feel secure sharing their ideas with others-this could be by using spoken language, or by staff members tuning in to each child`s needs and starting to introduce visual cues for those children that need support to be able to do this.
We want our children to leave for school happy, confident and ready for their next adventure. We will encourage the children to recognise their name-they may want to write it but if not that is ok, it will come in time, we will encourage the children to be as independent as possible, to have an understanding of sharing and turn taking and be confident to try new experiences.
We work closely with the local schools and invite them in to the nursery to meet the children, and will support families whose children may need extra support with the transition.
Overall our Early Years room is a place to have fun, build on confidence and resilience and encourage the children to try new experiences-all things that will help them with the transition to school.

Next is our Peter Rabbits room where we are very adventurous!
We build on those foundations that we have already made, and are eager to try new activities, interact with other children around us-we start to play together!-and enjoy becoming much more independent.
We self-serve at our meal times, we enjoy taking part in action songs together, we can listen to a short story-we love to use props to support this and keep everyone engaged, and we enjoy developing our physical skills -both in the garden where we learn to balance and jump, and by doing a variety of experiences that support our fine motor skills, such as exploring the sand.
We develop our independence by being involved in meeting our hygiene needs, such as washing our hands, and we start to share our thoughts and ideas with a familiar adult-wow we are busy!
We also start to introduce our extra curricular activities-Forest School, Creative Arts, Well-Being and Cookery- we are learning and developing so fast!

Our babies then become so confident-both in their physical skills as well as their social and emotional development and it`s time to move on to our Bobtails room!
In here we develop on the skills that the children have already learnt and start to introduce a variety of sensory experiences such as paint, sand and cornflour as the children are more confident to try new things. The children start to become aware of the other children around them, and although they still need their key worker near by, they are also developing their independence.
Communication also takes a great leap, as they go from babbling to saying full words, and we enjoy sharing a variety of stories and songs to promote this.

As we are coming to a time of the year where our school leavers are starting to prepare for their next step, lets look at our Baby Room! You may think that school readiness starts with our Early Years but in fact the foundations are started a long time before that.
Our babies are building strong, secure relationships with their key person-a system we have throughout the nursery that helps support children`s well-being-, they are developing confidence to try new skills-such as learning to use the slide safely, and they are developing their independence-as for many it is the first time they have been away from their families.
So much learning takes place in the first few years, especially in the baby room, that lay the foundations for future learning and development. This is why we choose are staff well for our baby room, ensuring they offer lots of cuddles, patience and encouragement for our very youngest children-and just look at these smiles and the learning that is going on- remarkable!

Our Peter Rabbit children have been very excited this morning as it was time to say good-bye to our butterflies! We have watched them grow from Caterpillars to Butterflies-watching them for changes, feeding them and talking about the changes that were seen.
This has been a great learning experience for the children and we will now enhance on this by providing a variety of learning experiences, such as moving like a butterfly in our Creative Arts, looking for different insects as part of our Forest School activities and painting butterflies-talking about the lovely patterns we see on them.

Last week our Early Years children enjoyed having a Teddy Bears Party Day! This was following on from many of the children recently attending birthday parties.
A great day was had, where all the teddies were involved in a variety of activities!
They joined their owners on building and navigating obstacle courses, they played football and ball games together, they shared stories and helped with puzzles, they helped to write name badges so that everyone would know their names, they joined in party games and of course had lots of cuddles!
Sharing experiences from home, allows children to share ideas, develop their confidence, feel secure in the setting and develop their social skills.
