I’ve had a few new clients start recently and one of my favourite parts of a first session is actually the psychoeducation, really understanding why the brain has ended up thinking about the body the way it has.
& to be honest, how our mental health “works” in general because we’re just not taught about it at all!!
I’ve seen again with these new clients that when you start to understand where the thoughts, rules, comparisons & behaviours have come from (including what we’ve learnt & seen from the people around us) it suddenly makes a lot more sense.
-It’s easy to see how it’s been passed on through the generations too!
So when my clients understand why their brain is thinking in that way, it helps us work out how we can change it ✨
+ it gives us a lot more compassion for ourselves & the people around us 😌
These clients aren’t usually at breaking point; they’ve just realised it’s causing too much stress & taking up too much space for it to continue for the next 30 years.
Understanding where it came from is part of making sure it doesn’t have to keep going 🤍
