In Birch Class, the children have been creating their own ‘odd fish’. They have used various types of recycled plastic to create sculptures of sea creatures. The children have developed a real passion for looking after our oceans and understand the importance of recycling and disposing of waste properly.

Breakfast Club has been so busy this week with nearly 250 free breakfasts served to our children since Monday. This is a huge number considering the size of our school. There has been an array of choice from scrambled eggs to topped bagels and a beautiful homemade fruit salad made by Mrs Eden. Thank you for your support in using our club and a reminder that breakfast club is free for all who want to join from 7.30am. Just let us know when you want to attend. What a super day Oak Class have had at Hall Farm Park! The children had a jam-packed day feeding animals, walking goats and riding on tractors. There were some real moments of courage and resilience for some children when they felt a bit nervous about feeding the animals or climbing across the play equipment, and they all listened beautifully and learned lots about the different animals that live on the farm. Feeding the cows and learning about the different breeds was a real highlight! We had lots of very sleepy children on our ride home - even through the rumbles of a thunder storm! The children were, as always, super representatives of our school and have made us all very proud.

We are delighted to share the new books we have purchased to update the Newton library. New titles have been bought for each year group and shared with children today. These have partly been funded by the money school received from taking part in the Readathon, so thank you for your support with that. We look forward to hearing how the children have enjoyed reading the new stories.

Oak Class have had a wonderful start to their Growth topic this week. We have been exploring seeds, role playing in the garden centre, planting cress and different flowers and vegetables and creating fairy gardens both indoors and outdoors. The children have enjoyed learning which plants come from which seeds, and the quick-growing cress provided lots of opportunity for observational drawing and writing. The biggest excitement of the week, however, came in the form of our hatching butterflies! We now have three beautiful butterflies - Edmond, Unicorn and Rose.

This week, Birch Class discovered the results of their cress experiment. They found that the cress plant that received no sunlight grew weak, yellow leaves, and that the seeds that were given no water did not grow at all. The children discussed how important it is for plants to have both water and light in order to grow and stay healthy.

In Science, the children in Holly Class have been learning about classification. They began by sorting photo cards into groups based on observable characteristics, before moving on to learn about the six kingdoms and the work of Carl Linnaeus and his impact on this area of science.

To build reading fluency skills, Holly Class have been practising to become ‘Story Time Experts’, preparing to read well-loved stories to Birch Class. It was wonderful to see the children step up and take on the responsibility of reading to others, confidently putting their fluency skills into practice. Next term they will read to Oak Class.
