Sir Dennis Blundell, High Commissioner for New Zealand, opened Drumachose Primary School on 10th May 1971. The school was built on rising ground at Alexander Road by the Co. Londonderry Education Committee to serve the expanding communities in the town of Limavady and the surrounding countryside. William Cooke, who transferred with his five teachers from the Ogilby School. The school has three entrances - Alexander Road, Scroggy Park and Blackburn Path. The Foundation / Key Stage One department is a single storey building and the Key Stage Two department has three storeys. Altogether there are seventeen classrooms. Those in the Foundation / Key Stage one department are inter-related and built round a courtyard. There are quiet areas adjoining for silent reading or where teachers can, if necessary, give special attention to a child. Each year group in the Foundation Stage has their own designated structured play room. There are also wet areas where the children can mix paint and play with sand and water.
