This morning, we held a pop-up at Hub at St Mary’s in Lichfield, meeting local people and talking about where learning could take them next.⏩️

For one person, that might mean returning to education after years away. For another, it could mean gaining a recognised qualification, finding work, progressing professionally or changing career.👩🏽‍🏫

Community delivery matters to us because opportunities feel more accessible when support is visible, local and connected to places people already know.🪢

Today we’re marking the International Day of Sign Languages 💙

Here are three simple habits that can make communication more accessible:

👀 Visual support — use clear visual information when helpful.
⏳ Processing space — give people time to take in information and respond.
💬 Check understanding — don’t assume; make space for questions and clarification.

And a reminder: visual prompts are not the same as sign languages. Sign languages are complete, natural languages, each with their own structures and communities.

We’re sharing these as accessible-communication habits, not as BSL expertise. For more, we encourage learning from Deaf-led sources and Deaf communities.

🗓️Each week at Benson Community Hub, learners are working towards their Level 2 Certificate in Caring for Children. 👧🏽🧒🏼

👩🏽‍🏫This session focused on keeping children safe - identifying hazards, applying appropriate control measures and understanding what to do in the event of a fire or accident. 🚨
 
Delivering recognised qualifications within familiar community settings makes learning more accessible and gives adults the opportunity to build their knowledge, confidence and future options closer to home.
