What a great day yesterday supporting the Year 10 students at Chase Terrace Academy with their mock interviews.

I had some great conversations with students who were thinking about their futures - with students wanting to do everything ranging from mechanics to animation to the director of NASA! It was lovely to hear their hopes and dreams for the future as well as giving them practical advice on what to do next.

One of my Year 10 students said something lovely to me recently.
She told me: "The only reason I'm good at mental maths is because you tutor me."🥹

I don't think that's entirely true—I think she was already very capable. But what made me smile was knowing that she now sees herself as someone who can do maths confidently.

That's one of my favourite parts of tutoring 😍

Helping students discover that they understand more than they thought they did.

As students move into Year 11, confidence can make just as much difference as knowledge.

That's exactly why I've created my Calm & Confident Start to Year 11 Foundation GCSE Maths Summer programme.

Tonight, make sure you're all packed up ready for the morning - pencil case, extra pens, eraser - all of it. Prioritise getting a good night's sleep, and make sure you have a great breakfast to start your day tomorrow.

Wishing you the very best of luck!

A few people have asked me what my sessions are like...

I run small group tuition for children aged 5 to 16, focusing on:
✏️English - reading and writing skills, GCSE exam prep
📊 Maths - number, times tables, measure & shape skills, GCSE exam prep

Sessions are fun, supportive and designed to build confidence as well as ability.

No pressure - just helping children feel like, "I can do this."

Plus we love a game whenever possible 😁

Many parents I speak to say:
“We’ll wait and see how they get on in September…”

But if a child is already struggling with reading, writing or maths, September can feel even harder.

A bit of support now can mean they go back:
✔️ More confident with their reading
✔️ Clearer on key maths skills
✔️ Less anxious in lessons

It doesn’t need to be intense—just consistent and supportive.

“I’m just not good at reading/maths…”

If your primary aged child has said this recently, it’s really hard to hear.

But most of the time, it’s not ability—it’s confidence.

When children feel behind in things like reading, writing or maths, they start to doubt themselves… and that’s when progress slows.

The good news? With the right support, confidence can grow quickly.

If your child has had a wobbly year at school, now is a great time to rebuild before September.
