Dear families,
Thank you to those parents who have asked why we have not closed early today because of the warm weather. I want to reassure you about our decision and explain the steps we are taking to keep pupils safe, comfortable and learning.
There is currently no official weather warning for our area and at the moment classroom temperatures remain within comfortable limits. For those reasons the school is open today, but we are monitoring conditions closely and will change plans immediately if the situation or any risk assessment indicates we should. We have a school risk assessment in place for warm weather and will act on it if I am concerned about pupil safety.
What we are doing in school today
Encouraging pupils to drink plenty of water. We have a top-up water station and staff will remind pupils to hydrate regularly.
Allowing pupils to wear their school PE kit so they are in lighter, more comfortable clothing.
Avoiding unnecessary physical activity and heavy outdoor exercise at the hottest times of day; PE lessons and playtimes are being adapted.
Managing windows, blinds and using shaded outdoor areas where possible to reduce direct sunlight.
Each class has a fan and temperatures are monitored throughout the day.
How you can help
Please send your child with a named water bottle (filled on arrival if possible).
Apply sun cream before school and send a sun hat if you wish.
Continue to ensure your child attends unless they are unwell — attendance remains important.
We value your views and know clear, practical communication helps pupils’ learning and wellbeing. If you have concerns or suggestions about how we communicate in hot weather, please contact the school office or your child’s class teacher — we welcome two-way dialogue and will consider feedback when we review our procedures.
If your child feels unwell during the day, staff will contact you as usual and we will take appropriate action.
