Looking back on the first few weeks with Tony, one of the biggest steps we took early on was travelling to Freedom Saddlery for a saddle fitting with Stephanie Bradley. 🐴✨
At the time, I’d only had Tony for less than a week, so I wasn’t sure how he’d handle travelling, being in a new place, or standing for a fitting, but he surprised me with how calm and adaptable he was. It felt like such a positive start to our journey together.
Steph was fantastic, so kind, patient, and experienced. She made the whole process easy and enjoyable, and getting the right saddle fitted early on has set us up for success in everything we’ve done since. I’d highly recommend her to anyone needing a fitting! (I’ll tag the company here for those interested.)
Appointments like this are so important with a new horse, not just for building trust, but to make sure your tack fits properly for both horse and rider. It’s not always about buying new tack, even just having your existing saddle checked can make a huge difference.
For me, this fitting was essential because Tony’s original saddle was too small for me, which was affecting my balance and, in turn, his way of going. The most important thing was finding something that fit us both, allowing him to open up in his frame while keeping me balanced and comfortable. The difference in him once we tried the Aviar Rook 1 saddle was incredible, he really opened up!
It was such a great reminder of how much rider balance affects the horse, and it’s made me even more mindful of this in my own training and when coaching clients.
I can’t wait to share more as Tony and I continue to grow together. 🐴💕
P.S. How pretty is this Aviar saddle? 😍
