Runshaw’s in-house theatre company MuchMuchMore Theatre returned to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August with its latest production for the world-renowned festival. This time it was the radical re-imagining of Jekyll & Hyde where Victorian London collided with the here and now. It had already received the full Runshaw treatment in January in the Amanda Roocroft Theatre.

Students on The Professional Performance Programme at Runshaw College and our A Level Drama & Theatre course made up the cast of 20 who spent valuable time before and after each performance, walking the city streets with flyers and engaging with festival-goers. The cast received fantastic feedback, impressing a diverse range of people, including audiences from Sweden, Germany and the USA. A great achievement, well done everyone!

More than 120 students took part in a lively Q&A event today with Paul Foster MP, giving students the opportunity to engage directly with their local Member of Parliament.

Questions were submitted in advance by students and formed the basis of a wide-ranging discussion on some of the issues shaping political debate today. Speaking after the event, Paul Foster MP and his team praised students for the quality of their questions and the respectful manner in which they engaged in discussion. The session showcased the importance of providing young people with opportunities to explore different viewpoints and develop critical thinking skills.

Our A Level Law students recently had the privilege of spending a day at Preston Crown Court with His Honour Judge Jefferies KC. This rare opportunity offered our students a first-hand insight into the realities of criminal justice and the work of the courts.

During the visit, students were able to observe the famous Crown Court in full session. They watched a live criminal trial unfold, seeing how barristers question witnesses, how clerks support the smooth running of proceedings, how the jury considers the evidence, and how the judge oversees and directs the case. The visit provided valuable guidance for those considering future pathways in law.

Subject Spotlight: A Level Statistics. Why choose to study this course?

Students explore core ideas including data presentation, averages, measures of spread, correlation, probability and hypothesis testing. These themes build on GCSE concepts and develop into more advanced analytical techniques. Our experienced teachers and strong progression options ensure that our students are prepared for competitive university pathways and apprenticeships in areas such as psychology, business, economics, biology, geography and sport science.

As part of the Maths Academy, our students are also given the opportunity to take part in the biggest annual national maths competition: ‘The UK Senior Maths Challenge’.

School leavers can find out more about all our Mathematics courses and apply now for September 2027: https://runshaw.ac.uk/area-of-study/maths/
