True Health is a state of being not a state of doing!

The way you do anything is the way you do everything. Let that sentence filter through your mental and emotional awareness.

The body hears the mind and the body speaks the language of the sub and un-conscious mind, which is a pre programmed computer of our formative life and experiences.

In terms of Wellness, how does this relate? When you are trying to eat more healthily yet those old habits keep creeping back in?

It isn't because you are weak willed or that there is something wrong with you. It is simply that you need to re-wire the brain to create new habits that will support a habit change, sometimes called upgrading our inner software, so the hardware can work better.

You want to shift something but you can't, or you start with good intentions but they fall by the wayside and then resistance arises and you kick the f**kit bucket. I know it!!

Then feelings of failure can arise, which paves the way for more self beat up, because there's a thought that you should be able to do this on your own, right!?

I am here to remind you that you may well have been gifted with many strengths – AND – we all have our areas where we find difficulties. AND that is ok.

It is OK to ask for help, it is OK to acknowledge where you need support, because it is ok to not know.

Wellness doesn't need to be complicated, creating a healthy diet that works for you doesn't need to be complicated.

Remember you have choice and agency over your life. And as a nutritionist and wellness coach I facilitate people like you connecting to your agency and to your desires for what you want to install into your internal systems that support your future wellness journey.

Without all my teachers, guides, therapists, coaches – I wouldn't be where I am now!

Blessings

What does strength training mean to you?

When we think of strength training, we often think about building muscle, strengthening our core, or rehabilitating an injury.

All important.

As a naturopath, health coach and movement practitioner, I've come to see strength as so much more than physical.

We experience life through many layers of ourselves – our physical body, our mental, emotional, spiritual and breath body.

In today's world, many people are living predominantly in their minds; caught in anxiety, disconnected from their bodies, their hearts and what truly nourishes them.

In my yoga retreats, people often share that they feel disconnected from their body, from their hearts, from their true desires and from worrying about the future.

For me, strength training isn't just about building stronger muscles.

It's about building a stronger relationship with yourself.

Strength training not only strengthens the muscles in the body.

The benefit of strength training is that is also supports mental and emotional strength, building resilience with anxiety.

Every time you show up for yourself on the yoga mat, in your meditation space, in the class or with your PT, you're investing in your future health, your resilience, your confidence and your wellbeing.

Remind yourself that you are already a success and YOU are CAPABLE of incredible things

Your future self will meet you in gratitude every time!

I hope you've been enjoying the heat wave.

Maybe you've been lucky enough to get to the beach or swim in cold water

Invite yourself to find nature somewhere, if you're lucky to live in it or take a train

Feel your feet on the earth for free electrons for your mitochondria

Swim or immerse yourself in the sea for minerals

Find a local river beach for a paddle-board or a kayak

Find a forest to immerse yourself in the healing power of nature

Smile with your heart and remember you came here to heal, to have fun and to experience joy

Remember “joy is a state of being and happiness is a state of mind.”

Make a commitment to yourself this weekend to find joy in the layers of your life and meditate on happiness as a state of mind, happiness fluctuates, do not strive for perfection for you will be forever striving, instead take a look around you and offer gratitude for the simple things in life.

Gratitude is a direct link to joy and feeling good....

Your greatest asset is your health!!

Take a breath and breath that in.

We often think of assets as things, like houses, jewels, precious metals etc, but rarely consider our health to be an asset.

Without health – it severely restricts our ability to live as we want to.

Before we had ultra-processed and fast food, high sugar, artificial sweeteners and other chemicals that you need a chemistry degree to decipher, we had natural food growing out of or on the land.

We never had degenerative diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, gut issues, poor digestion and the myriad of chronic illnesses and autoimmune conditions that are caused -mostly - by both stress and poor diets. There are, of course, other variables; however, these are the primary factors that you can do something about.
Clients often say, “I don't know where to start; it all seems so complicated.”

However, wellness doesn't need to be complicated. We are designed to be healthy, so once you start, it doesn't take long to see the small shifts happening.

With the guidance of an expert nutritionist and health coach, your journey back to you that feels well and energised begins. What seemed overwhelming gets broken down into easy-to-manage steps tailored to your specific needs so that the process is more easeful.

How are you motivating yourself today? When it's super hot and all you want to do is melt!

Even for a well practiced teacher, I still get stuck in an inertia and sometimes have to be super strict to follow my practice.

It's easy to say "tomorrow" or "next week," but when tomorrow or next week comes, something else gets in the way.

Life shows up as work, kids, the laundry, Life admin and the myriad of things that somehow seem to creep their way to the top of your list, and suddenly you've found yourself saying next week and tomorrow again.

For you to enjoy getting older and not saying “my menopause brain,” or “my aches and stiffness,” it is essential to carve out those moments in your life to put you first.

Weekly classes with a great teacher you resonate with to keep you on track, a workshop to teach you how to create a home practice, a weekend retreat to press pause on life for a deeper journey into you, and 1-2-1 sessions for a personalised plan if you have a specific fitness goal in mind.

Whatever it is you choose to do, DO IT!

Because you know you will feel amazing in so many ways. The you that showed up for yourself, the you feeling great for all the endorphins flowing through your body and the you that feels fitter, stronger and more balanced.

The best part of movement isn't always the movement itself.

It's the encouragement.

The shared laughter.

The support when something feels challenging.

The celebration when someone achieves something they never thought possible.

Over the years, I've seen people grow stronger, more mobile, and more confident. But perhaps the most beautiful thing is watching people realise they don't have to do it alone.

Community matters.

Having people around you who encourage you, support you, and celebrate your wins can make all the difference.

As we head into the weekend, I'm feeling grateful for the wonderful people who show up, support one another, and remind each other what's possible.

Wishing you a weekend filled with connection, movement, and moments that make you smile.

Food is Information for the Cells

Your body is a chemical factory, it doesn't care if you are vegan, vegetarian, carnivore, keto or following the latest dietary trend. All it cares about is receiving the nutrients it needs to function optimally.

This means lots of non-sweet fruits & vegetables from all the colours of the rainbow (fibre, vitamins, minerals & phytonutrients), amino acids (protein), essential fatty acids (omega 3 and 6), MCT oil (medium chain triglycerides) & adequate hydration & electrolytes.

People often don't eat enough of the right foods & too much of the 'wrong' foods even if they believe they eat a healthy diet.

Have you heard if the Blue Zones?

These are areas in the world where people live healthily until their 80's & beyond. One of the key components of this is is said to be due to MCT from GOAT & SHEEP cheese & milk products. (Not from Cow dairy unfortunately). And Polyphenols a type of powerful plant chemical found in blue, purple & brightly coloured foods, as well as high quality coffee and (non sweet dark) chocolate.

Why?

The biochemists among you are going to love this; because MCT oil assists in mitochondrial uncoupling, this helps to promote longevity, by reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS), also known as 'free radicals' – not to be confused with protestors and ravers from the 90's! Rather the things that cause aging, breakdown in tissues, joints, skin, organs, brain etc and create the range of inflammatory conditions the Doctors in the West call aging and degeneration.

A big misconception is that eating for health has to be complicated.

In my experience, the simpler the meal, the better.

Why? Because simple means easier to digest. Digestion is the most energy demanding activity in the body. That is why fasting, can, in some circumstances be helpful for regenerating cellular energy.

Nourishment verses restriction will provide the right information for your cells to support and optimise all your cells to work better.

As a side effect, many people experience more energy, improved mental clarity, fewer cravings and better metabolic health (weight loss).

We are not looking for perfection, we are looking to enjoy what healthy does.

Why I Love Calisthenics and Why I Chose to Teach This Type of Strength Training

One of the things I love most about calisthenics is that it reminds me what my body is capable of.

I was a trainaholic in my 30s. The good thing about all that training is that it gave me a lot of muscle, and I'm still benefiting from it now, even though I don't train anywhere near as much.

The not-so-good thing was that I overtrained and under-ate. That was before I fully understood how to apply my nutritional training to myself! And I became overwhelmed, overworked and eventually my body said NO.

Now that I am in my fifth decade and post-menopause, I'm really grateful for the muscle I have. Muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat tissue and plays an important role in healthy ageing, bone health, metabolic health and hormonal balance.

Muscle is your friend in so many ways. They support your heart, brain, bones, hormones, posture, energy and overall wellbeing.

Coming to my calisthenics classes, you'll be invited to meet your body exactly where it wants to be met.

You won't end up muscle-bound, (unless you want to) but over time you will build solid foundations, functional strength, confidence, mobility and resilience where you need it most.

Gyms and large fitness classes can feel intimidating, especially if you're not confident or don't know where to start, or you are neurodivergent or a bit dyspraxic.

Perhaps you've been to classes where nobody explains the correct lifting techniques, and you've left feeling confused, frustrated or like you're somehow failing.

My classes are different.

They're small, supportive, fun and tailored to the individual. As well as group needs. Whether you're a complete beginner or more advanced, you'll be challenged appropriately and leave feeling empowered and energised.

Time and time again, people tell me:
"I can do so much more than I thought I could."

What they don't realise is that every exercise can be regressed or progressed to suit the individual.

As an experienced teacher, I meet you where you are, supporting you to build confidence while gently inviting you to step a little further into your challenge zone and discover what's possible.

Friday Rest 🌿

Thank f**k it's Friday...

You take a deep breath and breathe in the thought of two whole days to rest.

Except it's not really rest, is it?

You've said yes to the in-laws.
You've said yes to taking the kids to a birthday party.
You've said yes to your friend who needs to talk through their latest life crisis.
You've said yes to your partner's work event.

You've said yes when all you really wanted to say was no.

You've worked hard all week and your body is asking for something different.

Space.
Quiet.
Time to exhale.

Sometimes I find myself longing for slower days. Days before phones, emails, notifications, and the pressure to always be available.

(Does that make me old? 😂)

Humour aside...

Rest isn't a luxury.
It's a biological necessity.

Rest is where repair happens.
It's where muscles rebuild.
It's where the nervous system recalibrates.
It's where the brain integrates, heals, and creates new possibilities.

Without rest, we're simply running on empty.

So this weekend, can you gift yourself some presence?

A few hours.
Half a day.
Maybe even a whole day.

What would genuine rest look like for you right now?

And if the thought of taking time for yourself feels impossible, perhaps it's worth asking why you've created a life that asks more from you than it gives back.

You deserve moments that nourish you too.

Rest well. 🌿✨

Feeling tired isn't always about needing more sleep; sometimes it's a sign of something deeper going on, especially if you have slept for 8 hours and you are still tired.

Or that you are feeling apathetic, demotivated, aches & pains, lost your creativity, unenthusiastic, tension, difficulty concentrating and a sense of “Is this what my life is now?”

These small signs are your body communicating with you, and whilst it's easy to ignore these signs, it's a good idea not to, because when we ignore the small signs, the body starts to communicate louder and louder until you cannot ignore it any more.

The body speaks the mind. All the stress, poor diet, poor sleep, too much alcohol, sugar, coffee, and the wrong exercise put your body into a state of fight or flight. This stress is the thing that will affect every health marker and affect every genetic expression whether you have the genes for something or not.
It is much easier to make shifts and manage your health before you reach a crisis point.

You might have been to the doctors, had a blood test, and been told it was all normal.
There is a difference between normal and optimal, and your doctor doesn't work in optimal ranges; they work in normal ranges, which isn't terribly reassuring considering the average health of our nation is declining.

Your doctor can assist you in symptom management with drug therapy, they can help you in an emergency and can put you back together if you've had an accident, and advances in medical science are amazing.

However, your doctor has NOT had training in lifestyle medicine, nutrition or health coaching. Sometimes, simple tweaks to your diet, lifestyle and exercise routines are all it takes to make a big shift.

If the picture above is you and you are tired of being tired all the time and want to work with a Nutritionist & Wellness Coach to assist and facilitate you finding you again and you feel inspired or feel drawn to work with me, these are my areas of specialisms - I'd love to hear from you.
