As the Mighty Oaks prepare to leave for school, they participated in one last school readiness activity. We used chalk to trace and write letters to develop their independent writing skills. We used photos as visual representation for words such as 'boo' and 'moo' and copied out the same letter in patterns to help us become more used to it.🐮
We also used this last opportunity to share some positive conversations about their transition to school and new adventures!

Today the children were so happy to welcome Ellie back after her holidays! The children love singing with Ellie, they sung some new songs, danced with all the instruments, popped loads of bubbles and danced underneath the parachute!🎶

Beach school🩴

The little acorns and saplings classes went to visit Seaford beach where they found some bug logs that had washed up on the tides. The children used the logs as inspiration for our beach art and decorated them with pebble swirls.

The beach always brings a sense of calm, listening to the sounds and watching the waves. There is always something interesting to see, giving opportunity for lots of questions and new learning

National Trust 🌳

Today we had fun at Sheffield park where we even got to ride in the gold buggy. The lovely lady who worked there took us safely from the bus through the car park to the entrance. We then went for a lovely walk and saw the ducks in the pond and played the summer games along the trail. We really worked on our physical skills through building stamina, balancing and managing obstacles.

Paradise Park Trip 🦕🦖

Today the Little Acorns took a lovely trip over to Paradise Park!

We went around the museum to learn more about Dinosaurs, the world we live in and different natural disasters through hands on learning. We then went over to the soft play area where we worked on our climbing, especially enjoying the see-saw! Afterwards we did some digging in the sandpit and climbing on the outdoor play area. When we went around the gardens we saw even more Dinosaurs and were naming their colours, as well as waving hello to the train as it went past!

School Readiness 📚📝📆

School readiness is much more than letters and numbers. It is important for children to recognise different emotions they might feel and understand how to communicate their emotions. And with only a couple more weeks left until their transition, Mighty Oaks have been thinking and talking about the different emotions that they are feeling.

The children developed an understanding of communicating their feelings and were able to draw a range of different faces and emotions. We used the Colour Monster goes to School story to share different feelings the children might experience and what they can do to support their emotions.

Gardening Club 🧑🏼‍🌾 🪏🪴

Today we welcomed some much needed rain to the garden 🌦️ with the recent, very hot weather, the children have been extra vigilant at ensuring the plants around the garden have been looked after, knowing that they need water as well as sunshine. Today, we re-potted some of the flowers that have been growing in the greenhouse and planted them in the garden, to make sure that the gardens are still full of colour.

The allotment and poly-tunnel have also been de-weeded and freshly watered to keep everything growing healthy and strong.

Gardening club allows for a multitude of developmental benefits, including physical and mathematical development as well as emotional well-being. It provides a sense of achievement and encourages team work 👨🏼‍🌾🫜

Beach School Rock Pooling 🦀💦🪣

Today we had the biggest beach school adventure where we ventured to Eastbourne Holywell bay to go rockpooling at low tide. Armed with our buckets and spades we had so much fun scooping and collecting sand to make sandcastles and also scooping the sand to make holes to jump and paddle in. The tide was out far enough to see all the sand and rock pools but was rapidly on its way in.

We found so many creatures today too, under rocks and by the groins we found a juvenile shore crab who was very friendly. We also found some blennies, some whelk eggs, seagulls, beadlet anemones, limpets and lots of healthy seaweed 🦀
