The Outdoor Teacher

The Outdoor Teacher For 35 years, I've worked outdoors with groups - in schools, and in partnership with the NHS. Author and international trainer Marina Robb

I've developed Online training in Outdoor Learning & Forest School Activities to support more practice outdoors!

23/08/2026

Something new is coming on 28 September.

This September I’m bringing together a group of practitioners who work outdoors in very different settings:

Early Years
Specialist/SEN education
Independent education
Forest School practice

And potentially perspectives from further afield too.

I want us to have an honest conversation about what inclusive outdoor learning actually looks like when the people, places and needs are different. We’ll also be talking about the journey from practical outdoor skills to deeper, more responsive practice.

Outside for Everyone
Live — Monday 28 September, 6–7pm

Could you build a sustainable income around the outdoor work you love?

For years, people have asked me: “Why don’t you create a course to help people build a business around their outdoor practice?”

So, I’ve listened.

I’m now exploring a new course for Forest School leaders, outdoor educators, teachers and nature-based practitioners who want to earn an income from what they do — or grow what they’ve already started.

After more than 30 years of building businesses around outdoor education and health practice, I have an initial course idea. But before I take it any further, I want to know what you need.

What would actually help you build a sustainable outdoor practice?

I’ve created a short 5-minute survey to find out and your answers will help shape the course.

➡️ Take the survey here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe7bv_PGAXw6NoqxscgKaCgHtY3n7nmCQqaZ-yoOG0WySDvJA/viewform

And if you’re interested but don’t have time for the survey, you can join the waiting list to be one of the first to hear when it launches.

You don’t need more ideas.
You need the confidence to know what to do with them.
Activities are useful. But at some point, many practitioners want to go deeper.

They want to understand why an experience matters.
How to adapt it for different children.
How to support appropriate risk.
How to plan meaningful sessions.
How to connect outdoor learning with wellbeing, behaviour, confidence, communication and child development.

That’s where our Advanced Certificate comes in.
It brings together theory, practical activities, planning, videos, risk assessments and resources to help bridge the gap between inspiration and implementation.

Because becoming a confident outdoor practitioner isn’t about collecting more activities. It’s about understanding the practice behind them.

September enrolment opens soon: https://theoutdoorteacher.com/courses/advanced-certificate-in-forest-school-and-outdoor-learning/

Forest School isn’t simply about taking learning outside.

It’s about creating the conditions where children naturally move more, engage all of their senses, communicate more deeply and build stronger foundations for lifelong learning.

🌿 Movement supports physical and cognitive development.
🌿 Sensory-rich experiences help children feel calmer, more connected and improve memory.
🌿 Natural environments inspire richer conversations and more descriptive language.

These are benefits that are difficult to recreate within four classroom walls.

Which of these benefits have you noticed most in your own setting?

100 days until our next Level 3 Forest School Leader training begins.

Unlock your own nature-based creativity and discover practical activities to inspire the children and young people you work with. From cyanotype printing to fire lighting, woodland crafts and more, you'll build a toolkit of ideas you can use for years to come.

Our next course starts 12th November. We'd love you to join us.
