Not everyone who needs support at an event needs medical treatment.

Someone may be distressed or overwhelmed, separated from friends or family, vulnerable through intoxication, experiencing a safeguarding concern, or simply need somewhere quiet and safe for a period of time.

That is where dedicated event welfare provision can make a real difference.

Our Event Welfare Teams work alongside medical, security and event management teams to provide practical, non-clinical support to people who may need additional help during an event.

From managing dedicated welfare spaces and supporting vulnerable attendees, through to safeguarding, lost children, intoxication and emotional wellbeing, the aim is to make sure people receive the right support while maintaining clear pathways into medical care or other services when required.

Sometimes we never find out what happens after someone attends one of our courses.

Sometimes we do.

Just two days after attending one of our Driver CPC First Aid courses, Brighton & Hove Buses driver Debra Russell was faced with a situation that none of us ever hope to encounter. She came across a man in cardiac arrest, immediately recognised what was happening and began CPR, continuing until the ambulance service arrived.

We’re incredibly proud to learn that Bill survived.

Yesterday, Debra’s Training Manager at Brighton & Hove Buses shared something that meant a great deal to us:

“I have recently spoken with Debra Russell regarding her life saving intervention, and she confirmed that attending the Driver CPC First Aid course delivered by Laura gave her the confidence and knowledge to step in and assist when it mattered most.”

As first aid trainers, this is why we do what we do.

Every course we deliver is built around giving people practical skills and, just as importantly, the confidence to use them when it really matters. We always hope those skills are never needed, but when they are, those first few minutes can make an enormous difference.

A huge congratulations to Debra for remaining calm under immense pressure and taking immediate action. We also wish Bill a continued recovery and thank everyone else involved in his care, from the members of the public who assisted to the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust crews who took over his treatment.

Stories like this are a powerful reminder that first aid training isn’t just about gaining a qualification. It’s about giving ordinary people the confidence to do something extraordinary when someone needs them most.

Planning an event this autumn, winter or into 2027?

The right medical provider isn’t just there to respond when something goes wrong. They’re there to work with you before your event even opens, helping ensure your plans, resources and medical provision are appropriate for the people attending.

At Pulse South Coast, we provide professional medical and welfare cover for events of all shapes and sizes, including:
🎵 Music festivals
🎄 Christmas markets & light trails
🔥 Bonfire & fireworks events
🏃 Sporting events
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Community events
🎪 Shows, fairs and seasonal attractions

From first aiders and welfare teams through to HCPC registered Paramedics, emergency ambulances and dedicated treatment facilities, we tailor our medical provision to your event rather than offering a one size fits all package.

If you’re already planning your Autumn, Winter or Spring 2026/27 events, now is the ideal time to secure your medical cover before availability becomes limited.

The Department for Education has recently published new statutory guidance on allergy safety in schools, introducing important changes that schools should now be reviewing.

We've put together a practical guide that explains the key changes in plain English, including dedicated Allergy Safety Policies, staff training, emergency response, Individual Healthcare Plans and what the guidance means for schools in practice.

If you work in education or have children at school, I hope you find it useful.
