We had a hot week last week with lots of ice and water play to cool us down. During this play, the children were talking about the ice, and how 'the hot sun melts it' and 'it melts in my warm hand.' 'Look it's turning into water!' The children helped to add a variety of objects including minibeasts, dinosaurs, gems, and pom poms to ice trays with water and put them in the freezer to freeze. Using pipets and water the children spent lots of time trying to melt the ice and retrieve the objects.
Following on from that, this week we decided to continue the theme of ice and make our own healthy ice lollies! The children picked which fruits they would like in their ice lolly and cut them up carefully. With an adult to help them, we blended the fruit together with some freshly squeezed orange juice. Then added them into the freezer. The children will get to taste their ice lollies today... we look forward to hearing their verdicts!
It's been wonderful to see the children's imaginations really shine through during the last few weeks. We've had lots of buildings and structures using the Duplo and our new big building blocks. Look at what becomes of a small stack of blocks... animals worlds, complex car garages and tall towers! Also our new small world house... sometimes its a dolls house, or a dinosaur land or an animal safari. There are no limits! The children play so wonderfully and play together so well. It's lovely to see how far their play has progressed over their time with us.
We've started our school readiness with our school leavers, you will receive challenges to complete at home with your child to support them with this. The challenges are linked to our values of being independent, safe, curious and resilient. We will be taking the children over for a visit or two to their new classroom and their new class teacher will be spending some time with us at pre-school.
