Last Thursday, we celebrated our children's next adventure as they prepared to leave for school. We held a lovely leavers' party to recognise everything they've learned at Kattz Kidz and to cheer on the exciting journey that lies ahead for them.
We will miss you Class of 2026.

Our Preschool children had a wonderful time at Gardening Club in The Wynd, where they have been busy caring for their tomatoes and beautiful sunflowers.

The children loved checking on their plants, watering them, and seeing how much they have grown since their last visit. These hands-on experiences help them develop an understanding of the natural world, where food comes from, and the importance of caring for living things.

Gardening links beautifully to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) by supporting children's learning across several areas. It encourages communication and language as they talk about what they observe, develops physical skills through digging, watering and planting, promotes personal, social and emotional development by working together and taking responsibility, and helps children understand the world through exploring nature, growth and the changing seasons.

Being part of Gardening Club at The Wynd also gives our children the opportunity to build meaningful connections within the local community. Spending time together, learning from others and caring for the shared garden helps them develop a real sense of belonging and respect for the environment around them. We are so grateful to be part of such a welcoming community and love seeing the children flourish through these shared experiences.

We are incredibly proud of our little gardeners and can't wait to watch the tomatoes ripen and the sunflowers grow even taller! πŸŒ±β˜€οΈ

🐸 Learning Through Make-Believe & Messy Play πŸŒΏπŸ’š

Today our Blueberries explored a wonderful small-world pond full of frogs, lily pads, and sensory fun! Through make-believe play, children use their imaginations to create stories, solve problems, and develop their language and social skills. Whether they're pretending to be frogs hopping through a pond or discovering new creatures, every moment is an opportunity for learning.

Messy play is just as important! It encourages children to explore using all of their senses, build fine motor skills, develop curiosity, and gain confidence through hands-on experiences. There is no "right" or "wrong" way to play, allowing children to experiment, investigate, and learn at their own pace.

At the heart of early years education is providing rich, engaging experiences where children can play, explore, and make sense of the world around them. After all, some of the best learning happens when little hands get a little messy! πŸ’šπŸŒ±πŸΈ

πŸ’¦β˜€οΈ Splashing into fun! β˜€οΈπŸ’¦

Our Toddlers and Preschoolers had a fantastic time cooling off in the water sprinklers today! There were lots of smiles, laughter, and opportunities for learning through play while keeping comfortable in the warm weather.

Water play is a wonderful way to support children's development in line with the EYFS. It encourages communication and language as children chat and play together, develops physical skills through running, jumping, balancing, and coordination, and promotes personal, social, and emotional development by building confidence, sharing, and taking turns. It also sparks curiosity, exploration, and early mathematical thinking as children investigate how water moves, splashes, and fills different spaces.

As the temperatures rise, activities like this help children stay cool, active, and engaged while making the most of outdoor learning.

Our Under 2s thoroughly enjoyed taking part in this week's cooking activity, where they made their own delicious pizzas. The children explored a variety of ingredients, spread the tomato sauce, added their chosen toppings, and watched as their creations came together.

Cooking activities provide valuable opportunities for young children to develop a wide range of skills while learning through play. As they scooped, sprinkled, and spread ingredients, they strengthened their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Exploring the different textures, colours, and smells encouraged curiosity and supported sensory development, while making choices about their toppings helped to promote independence and confidence.

This activity also supported several areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), including:
πŸ… Physical Development – Developing fine motor control through handling utensils and ingredients.
πŸ§€ Communication and Language – Introducing new vocabulary, following simple instructions, and engaging in conversations throughout the activity.
🌿 Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Building confidence, encouraging independence, and fostering a sense of achievement.
πŸ• Understanding the World – Learning about different foods and ingredients and exploring simple cooking processes.

It was wonderful to see the children so engaged, developing new skills, and taking pride in their own creations. We are looking forward to many more exciting cooking experiences together!
