Rear-facing has been proven to save childrenโs lives every day. The facts are clear, rear-facing safety makes a huge difference for children in the event of an accident. Yet, we see terrifying numbers of small children travelling forward facing and even without a car seat at all. This is the reason why we must raise our voices, to spread the safety message about rear-facing for all childrenโs right to travel in the safest direction โ rear-facing.
Why is rear facing so much safer?
Why is rear-facing better? A rear-facing car seatโs biggest advantage is the superior protection it offers to your childโs head, neck and spine in the event of a collision. The rear-facing car seat shell protects your child and distributes the crash forces over a larger area and therefore significantly reduces the forces acting upon the neck.
In the event of a collision the chances of surviving or avoiding severe injuries increases significantly if your child is travelling in a rear-facing car seat instead of a forward-facing car seat. Why rear-facing car seats are safer, is because a childโs head is disproportionate to the body and equates to approximately 25% of the total bodyweight in comparison to an adult where the head only counts for about 6% of the total bodyweight. In addition to this, a childโs neck is incredibly vulnerable as it is not fully developed. The sensitive neck in addition to the headโs weight makes it even more important to protect and support the childโs neck for as long as possible.
Itโs not a race to forward face โค๏ธ

Itโs that time of year again when mini eggs are lining the supermarket shelves. But, did you know that, just like grapes, they are the perfect size to block a small childโs airway and choke them? And, their hard shell can make it difficult to dislodge with standard first aid techniques.
With whole grapes we advise cutting them in half lengthways and ideally into quarters to create thin strips. But chopping up mini eggs isnโt as easy. So, what can you do?
1. Hide them from the children and eat them yourself โ good luck with that!
2. Put the mini eggs into a sealable plastic bag and smash them into small pieces with a rolling pin. Or, crush them in a pestle and mortar.
3. Opt for a different treat. Larger, hollow eggs are much safer for little ones.
