Little Buttons has been super busy today - with the help of a few recruits (including a little cat that followed us for a few roads asking for lots of fuss and attention). We've been out spreading the word to local communities, reaching out the families who may need our services!

The Summer Heatwave seems to be back! Who's enjoying this heat?

We here at Little Buttons are! 🙋🏽‍♀️

But do you know the key signs to look out for with your little ones outside in this Sunshine?

1) 😴Tiredness and lethargic reactions: everyone gets tired in the heat! Our body is so busy trying to keep us cool it doesn't spare alot of energy for activities, but if you or your little one is passing the point of a little tired into a state of hard to keep them awake, or once asleep extremely hard to wake it's time to call 999.

2) Dry Lips and Mouth 💧 Being thirsty is a really common issue in the heat, as out bodies are using up our water supply to sweat and keep us cool. But not keeping up enough fluids can cause dehydration. Children don't feel thirsty untill they have lost 2% of their weight in sweat - it doesn't sound alot, but it can cause alot of issues for their little bodies to handle.

3) Cramps 💪 muscle cramp in children is very common in the heat - usually legs and stomach! They aren't always as dangerous as the other signs, but still something to be taken seriously! With lots of fluid and rest they should ease in a few hours - if not call your doctor.

The sunshine brings so much great fun to families - lots of out door time and fun memories to be made! ☀️

Making sure that you have plenty of fluids and rest in the shade is a easy way to keep you and the little ones safe whilst making some summer fun!

What's the weather like for you today?

Seems like Cloud and Rain has over taken the summer holidays weather! Keep your little ones entertained for hours with some of the activities below!!

🔹One of my favourite activities is bringing your picnic indoors! Clear a space and lay down a comfy blanket or rug, cuddle up with teddies and toys sharing a yummy picnic lunch, bored games and colouring! You could even turn your space into your own den! Find lots of pillows, a tent or teepee if you have one. (or an old bedsheet over a sofa or bunk bed!)

🔹Have you ever made Cloud Dough? It's a fun soft texture play dough with only TWO ingredients! Using Hair Conditioner, and Cornstarch mixed together in a bowl you can form a dough! Add a little food colouring if you want to make some funky colours too! Plus, it smells yummy depending on the conditioner you use! Get your little ones to make an object for you to guess, or group together and make your own little scene! Maybe a town or sunny beach!

🔹How about a fizzy Rainbow?! Get the children wild about science with this activity. Line up a baking tray with some paper (to contain some of the mess!) And get four different cups, fill them about 3/4 with baking powder and mix different colour food colouring drops into the powder! Make sure you mix it really well! Next line them up and let the magic happen by pouring in some vinegar and brining your fizzy Rainbow alive!!

With the weather due to be HOT HOT HOT this week- here are some tips and tricks to keep your little ones safe, cool and entertained in the hot sun!

🌞 Try and avoid being outside between 11-4 the sun is at its hottest and the UV most dangerous to little ones skins!
🌞Make sure to use high protection suncream and a good sun hat whilst outside!
🌞Always have access to clean and cool water and plenty of snacks during the day!

⭐Water play is a great and fun way to keep children cool - try adding some paint or food colouring with bubbles into the water for something new (watch out for stains though!)
⭐Paint Ice Cubes is a amazing way to keep your little ones cool whilst they make mess! Simple add a few drops of paint or food colouring into an ice try, top up with water and freeze!! For smaller hands add a lolly stick as someone to hold onto.
⭐If you can find a nice shady area, simple Chalk on the pavement let's the little artist have free range on a huge canvas! For added fun, get the hose out when your finished for them to wash away their drawing and cool down at the same time!

💛 Avoid having any heavy and hot meals! Keep the Casseroles for the rainy days. One of our personal favourites is Pitta Bread Pizza!
💛 Although Fizzy drinks are yummy ... They aren't as hydrating or nutritional as water (even diluted juice) try to keep drinking often to stay in top shape in the heat!
💛 Always avoid any food that's been left out or feels warm to touch! It can carry some nasty bugs that will harm your little ones tummy's.
