Julia Gommon Music - Piano Lessons in Leighton Buzzard
Piano lessons offered in Leighton Buzzard to pupils of all ages and abilities - come and experience the incredible benefits of music making!
I am a piano teacher based in Leighton Buzzard and have spent the past 7 years teaching 1:1 lessons here to pupils of all ages and abilities, from 5 year olds through to adults, beginners through to grade 8 level. In September 2021 I took a few months of maternity leave to have my second baby, and during that time reflected a lot on the direction I wanted my business to take, which led to a very e

I was so impressed and delighted to receive these photos from one of my pupils' parents this week! At the start of the month I sent out a list of ideas of Piano New Years Resolutions, to get everyone inspired to keep driving forwards this term, and it was so lovely to see that this pupil has not only printed out and chosen her resolutions, but also taken ownership of making her own practice schedule too! Fantastic work! 👏
If you haven't tried it yet, it's never too late to get started with some New Years Resolutions - why not print out the list and choose some too, and see where it leads you! I can't wait to hear more of your 2024 wins 💪
Happy New Year everyone! I hope you've had a great break! I'm having an admin day today - the music mug is out and lesson plans are in full swing! Looking forward to seeing lots of you when I'm back to work on Thursday 😊
A very Happy Christmas to you all, from me and my little gang! I hope you're all having a lovely holiday and enjoying some precious time with your nearest and dearest. A huge thank you to you all for your support this year, and can't wait to make more music together in 2024 ❤️🎄🎁🎶
Last lessons before Christmas this week, and with a lot of the children I've been rounding off the lesson with a game of piano decoration while we listen (and sing along to!) some Christmas carols together - this is always one of their favourites to do, and you can never have too much reinforcement of note geography! ❤️🎶🎄🎹
Providing the background music as people arrived for my son's school nativity today! I forgot that I have such a serious piano face until I saw it on camera! 😂 Does anyone else look like this when concentrating?! 😬🙈
When a pupil gives you a Christmas card (with a chocolate coin inside! ❤️) that absolutely makes your year! 😭😍
Huge congratulations to my 3 Practice Stars of the Month for November!

You are all brilliant and should be so proud of your hard work! 👏🌟🎶
Emily playing Titanium completely from memory today - she's smashing it this term! 🤩
Despite my best efforts, my lovely eldest boy still isn't remotely interested in any of the proper instruments he is lucky enough to have available to him in the house! THIS, on the other hand, he loves... 😂 He managed to play Jingle Bells on it earlier and it made him so happy! 😃🎵🎹
Learning CDE today at school through lots of fun games! A lovely morning of teaching, now time to enjoy the weekend 😊 Happy Friday everyone!
Huge congratulations to my Practice Stars for October - Bella, Xavier and Albie! The hours and hours that you put into your practice last month was just incredible, and I'm so proud of you all! 👏🎶🎹
Preparing for a school performance in a few weeks time... I love watching my pupils grow and develop so much! 🎹🎶
A very exciting afternoon testing out some gorgeous instruments at Milton Keynes Pianos 😍 I could be looking to upgrade very soon... 😀🎹🎶
Halloween rhythms with my Storytellers 4 class today! 🎃🎶🎹 Here they are demonstrating not only some great rhythm skills, but also fantastic teamwork, cooperation, and focus. Good job guys!
Clapping games in today's KeyNotes lesson - a great way to develop our awareness of left and right, as well as our timing and teamwork skills 🎶✋️ Well done everyone!
One of my pupils brought me this little creation as a present today, which he'd made for me by hand totally independently! It never fails to blow my mind how kind, sweet and talented children are! Another pupil then saw it on the piano, asked me what it was, and when I told him he said he was going to make me a bookmark and bring it in next week 😍 Never change guys, never change ❤️🎶
Today we played a musical matching game in some of my KeyNotes classes. Most of the terminology that we use when reading music is written in Italian, so we need to be able to understand lots of different Italian words in order to interpret the music correctly. This term's workbook is focused on Tempo (speed), so we have been learning lots of different Italian words for different speeds throughout this term. This was a great way for the children to consolidate all of their knowledge so far, and we all had a lot of fun!
We enjoyed a family day out to the Milton Keynes Museum yesterday (a brilliant place for the kids for anyone who hasn't been!), and couldn't resist having a go of the Pianola (otherwise known as the "Player Piano"). I've never played one before, but it's operated by using your feet pushing on two pedals, and the result is that it plays all the notes for you! 🎶🎹 Hope you've all had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful Autumn weather! The lovely little guy playing in the video is in the middle of a not-so-lovely sleep regression at the moment, so I'm off to bed before my 5am wake-up call tomorrow 😭😴
Huge congratulations to my Practice Stars of the Month for September - Bella, Ioanna and Xavier! I'm sooo impressed with all of the hours of work you put in last month and the results are really starting to show - a big well done to you all!
Happy Wednesday from my lovely Storytellers 4 class! The floor piano was back out today, and we had a great lesson of listening, singing, dancing, colouring, and of course, lots of piano playing!
At the end of today's lesson, one of my pupils asked if he could show me a little piece he had made up himself at home. I was so impressed when he played me this! It's only his 2nd lesson with me and already I can see he is going to go far this year 🎶🎹
I've managed to persuade my husband to take the kids out for the day, to give me one day of peace to work and get sorted for September. So this can mean only one thing... it's time for the colour coded spreadsheets to come out! 🤓
Fun fact - before I became a piano teacher my background was actually in administrative roles - my first proper job out of University was working as the Assistant Orchestra Manager for the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and then I went on to be an Assistant Artist Manager at HarrisonParrott, working for some of the top classical conductors and musicians in the world 🎻🎶 Organisation was absolutely key in these jobs, and it gave me a really thorough grounding in so many of the important skills which I need and use to run my own business now.
It feels a lot harder to be well organised these days with two young children running around demanding my attention all day (hence the messy office behind me - on my to-do list to sort out today!), but I will always secretly love a spreadsheet (😂), so I'm grateful for a bit of time today to get my head back in the game! I hope you're all having a lovely summer, and you can rest assured I'm busy getting organised and ready to see you all again in a few weeks for lots of fun and music-making 😀🎶
Lots and lots of smiles and fun in my last KeyNotes lessons of the term today! We did some piano decoration, wrote and clapped our own Summer-themed rhythms, and learnt a new song all about a bouncy beach ball. Golden stickers all round to send everyone on their way for the holidays ✨️ Well done everyone! 🎶
I'm delighted to announce that I will be joining the new team of peripatetic teachers at High Ash C of E Primary School in September, offering 1:1 piano lessons to pupils there. I'm so excited to meet everyone and get started after the Summer! 🎹
The face of a pupil who has just received a Distinction for her first ever piano exam! 👏🎹🎶 And not just any Distinction, but a score of 96/100 - whaaaatttt?! Mind absolutely blown by this little superstar! 🌟 Congratulations Emily, you have made me, your family, and I hope most of all yourself, SO proud!
Huge congratulations to my June Practice Stars of the Month:
Special Achievement: Evie
You've all worked so hard and I am really proud of you! We're taking a little break from the practice portal now to enjoy the summer, but we'll be back with more winners in September 🎶🎹❤️
Are you considering upgrading your beginner keyboard but aren't quite ready to commit to a full size proper piano? This Yamaha electric piano is the perfect middle ground! Available for hire first come first served - a great idea to keep the kids entertained over the summer holidays or to start preparing them for piano lessons starting in September! 🎹🎶
