No more Mentmore…

Yesterday we said goodbye for the last time to the Old Haybarn.
As I drove away I had a strange mix of feelings- sad, relieved, satisfied, annoyed, hopeful.
It feels like the end of an era, 8 years there, almost all of Langley Training’s life.
Many of you did all of your counsellor training there from level 1 to 5!

Thank you for supporting Langley at the barn.
here’s to the next Chapter at Liscombe Park 😊
It’s a lovely space, we hope to see you there!

Labour has made some promises in respect of mental health practitioners in schools. There is no better time to train in child counselling.
Our membership bodies in the field of counselling and psychotherapy will be holding government accountable to these promises and access to counsellors in schools.
Get ready via our Diploma course commencing this October!

Labour's Manifesto Pledges for Mental Health
🙏🏻Increase access to specialist mental health professionals in every school
🙏🏻Implement Young Futures Hubs
🙏🏻Train 8,500 additional mental health staff
🙏🏻Expand self-referral routes
🙏🏻Introduce Neighbourhood Health Centres
🙏🏻Modernise the Mental Health Act
🙏🏻Provide mental health support for veterans
🙏🏻Deliver a full trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices

We have already asked the following questions of the Labour Party, and are awaiting a response:
Can Labour give more information about having a specialist mental health professional in every school?

Our research into Mental Health Support Teams shows that a variety of roles, but significantly including counselling, is important in schools. We cannot operate on a one-size-fits-all basis. NCPS statement

How do therapists benefit from a union? Trade unions were born into a world of work which was very different to today, but unions remain just as relevant. Many therapists are self-employed, but being your own boss does not mean that you can’t benefit from a union.

PCU was founded in 2016, we are committed to our mission of standing up for therapists and therapy.

We support our members and have several active campaigns.

Our member support team is here for you if you:

• Feel isolated. This can be an issue for anyone who is self-employed or is the only therapist in a workplace, school counsellors for example.
• Have felt discriminated against.
• Would like support in the event of being complained about.
• Are concerned about being asked to work for free.

(The Members Support Volunteers team service can only be accessed by members who have been a member for at least 3 months.)

Our current campaigns include:

• SCoPEd. We have a campaign group that meets regularly to discuss strategy and take action.
• EAP. Our EAP campaign group promotes demands for a better deal for affiliate therapists.

We also have an Education Network that brings together therapists working in education settings.

Being part of a union brings the solidarity of joining forces with hundreds of others and campaigning together on relevant issues. Our members and our executive committee understand therapy and understand the needs of practitioners.
We are also, like several other major unions, part of the GFTU (General Federation of Trade Unions) with lots of additional benefits for affiliated union members.

If you would like to join PCU, the details are on our website. If you would like any more information about us, please get in touch - [email protected]
